What did you all think about the Fourth of July band on Lake Lida? Was thinking it might be fun for the Lake Association to arrange for a band again next year- maybe more of a beach boys/oldies band. Thoughts? For those of you who didn't make it, I will post a YouTube link so you can see what I'm talking about.

As the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) works to make sure that subsurface sewage treatment systems (SSTS) are not fouling lakes, some lake shore owners are struggling to pay for the necessary upgrades to their older or failing systems. Minnesota Lakes and Rivers advocated last year for the legislature to make funding available to the Counties so that they could offer low/no interest loans to lakeshore owners doing this important work.

We wanted to make sure that your lake or river association knew of this funding so that you could access it for your lake.
MPCA is offering grants to counties for administering SSTS programs, special projects to improve SSTS compliance rates, and to assist low-income homeowners with SSTS upgrades.
The MPCA will determine grant allocations after reviewing all the applications. Funds will flow to counties through the Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) Natural Resources Block Grants (NRBG) in 2015.

The application submission deadline is August 12 at 4:30 p.m.

The application allows you to click “Submit” and it will automatically email your completed application back to [email protected] .

If you have problems with this function, you can save the form and attach it to an email to that same address. An email will be sent to confirm that your application was received. The goal is to notify grant recipients of awards during the first week of September or before if possible.

If you still have questions, please send them to [email protected] or call Aaron Jensen at 651-757-2544. A PDF copy of the grant application is available on the MPCA’s website.

Thank you for all you do to protect our lakes. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, don't hesitate to call, 952-854-1317 or email me directly at jeff@mnlakesandrivers.
