We were proud to sponsor the Happy Canyon 110th Anniversary Dinner. This celebration of more than a century of tradition and community in Pendleton was an evening full of storytelling with Chief Gary Burke and past Happy Canyon Directors.

For 110 years, Happy Canyon has helped tell the story of this place: a story shaped by Indigenous cultures, the American West, and the people who have carried these traditions forward. Reaching this significant milestone is a celebration that honors the past yet serves as a reminder of the living legacy that continues to make Pendleton distinctive.

At Travel Pendleton, we believe the experiences that bring visitors here are also the stories that make this community special. Happy Canyon is one of those enduring traditions connecting generations and inviting people from near and far to experience a piece of Pendleton’s history and culture.

What a treat it was to welcome our visiting students from Minamisoma, Japan, and share a little of the people and creativity that make Pendleton special.

Pendleton has a long-standing summer exchange tradition with our sister city of Minamisoma, and we’re so happy to play a small part in these special visitors’ experience—introducing them to some of our local makers and the stories behind what they create.

Here’s to friendship, cultural exchange, and the connections that keep our communities woven together.

Come with us to tour this Klamath woman-owned grocery store and native food hub in Pendleton.

Wildbill Market had its grand opening in June of 2026, and owner Shoshoni Wildbill has big plans. What started as an idea for a grocery store, has expanded into a vision for a native food hub to make staple foods accessible to the people of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation and surrounding area.

The store features products from a variety of small producers from the region, as well as native and tribal businesses from all over the West Coast. Drawing on her work in food sovereignty, Shoshoni’s ultimate goal is to make fresh, healthy, staple foods accessible in a place where there are few grocery stores available.

Ultimately, it’s about decolonizing our food system and building a trade network like folks have been doing for generations on this land.

If you’re driving through Pendleton, make the quick stop off the I-84, visit Wildbill Market, and stock up on all the delicious items she has to offer (get the Sakari Farms hot sauce. It’s delicious).
