Midweek Wonder ✨

Southern California doesn’t always have to mean a beach resort.

Rancho Valencia sits on 45 acres in Rancho Santa Fe, surrounded by citrus groves and Mediterranean-inspired architecture, with just 49 casitas — so it has a much more intimate feel than you might expect from a full-service resort.

This is the kind of place I’d look at for someone who wants the resort experience without the big-resort atmosphere.

Spa time, beautiful grounds, tennis and other racquet sports, relaxed dining, and enough space to slow the whole trip down a little.

And I think that’s what makes this one interesting. You’re still close to San Diego, but the experience feels completely different from staying along the usual coastal resort corridor.

For a Southern California getaway, would you rather have beachfront and busy or tucked away and relaxed?

Disney Cruise Line just gave us our first real look at the Disney Believe, and there are already some fun details to watch. 🚢✨

The new ship is scheduled to begin sailing in late 2027, with stories from Moana, Encanto, Frozen, Snow White, The Little Mermaid and more woven into spaces and entertainment onboard.

The Grand Hall will be inspired by Moana, with a bronze statue of Moana alongside Pua and Heihei as a focal point.

Outside, Woody and Buzz Lightyear will appear on the stern using giant yellow crayons to write the ship’s name, while Tinker Bell will be featured in the artwork on the bow.

And this is still only the first look. We don’t have itineraries yet, which is one of the biggest pieces I’m waiting to see before deciding what kinds of trips this ship may be best suited for.

Would you want to sail the Disney Believe when it arrives?

Tuesday Truths ✨

Adults-only does not automatically mean quiet.

Some adults-only resorts are romantic and low-key. Others have DJs at the pool, late-night entertainment, lively bars, group celebrations and plenty going on from morning until night.

And neither one is better.

They’re just completely different vacations.

That’s why “adults-only” is never enough information for me when I’m looking at a resort for someone.

I want to know whether you’re picturing a book-by-the-pool kind of week, celebrating with friends, staying somewhere social, or disappearing somewhere peaceful with your person.

Same label. Very different experience.

That’s the part that matters.

Fall at Disneyland is one of those seasons where the details matter.

The dates are staggered, the special events have their own schedules, and there’s a lot more to plan around than just picking park days.

If Halloween at Disneyland is on your list this year, now is a really good time to start looking at what you actually want the trip to include so you’re not trying to piece it all together later.

And yes — I can help with that. 🎃

Maine is one of those places that gives you a completely different kind of coastal trip.

You can start with a lighthouse and ocean views, spend part of the day wandering a harbor town, find a stretch of beach when you want to slow down, and still have plenty of little coastal stops worth pulling over for along the way.

That variety is what makes the Maine coast so appealing to me. It doesn’t have to be one kind of vacation.

You can build it around Bar Harbor and Acadia, add time farther south around Portland or Kennebunkport, or make the whole thing a coastal road trip with a few different stops along the way.

It’s scenic without needing a packed itinerary, and there’s enough variety that you can make it as active or relaxed as you want.

If you were mapping out a Maine trip, what would be highest on your list — the lighthouses, the harbor towns, the beach, or the scenery?

Some Sint Maarten trips are better when the resort isn’t the whole trip.

This waterfront stay in Oyster Pond is a good fit for couples or travelers who want a quieter home base, but still want easy access to the island around them.

You’ve got Oyster Bay Marina just a short walk away, Dawn Beach nearby, a pool and spa back at the resort, and plenty of reasons to get out and explore more of Sint Maarten while you’re there.

What makes this one appealing to me is the balance. You can have the relaxing resort side of the trip without feeling like you have to spend the entire week inside the resort gates.

The thing to know is that it’s not the best match if you want to be right in the middle of the busier nightlife or shopping areas. This is more about having a calmer base and then choosing when you want to head out.

For the right traveler, that can be a really nice way to experience Sint Maarten.

Disney just shared a pretty big batch of Walt Disney World updates — and there’s a lot coming.

Cars-inspired Piston Peak is headed to Magic Kingdom, Villains Land is moving forward with two major attractions, Monstropolis is taking shape at Hollywood Studios, Dreamfinder is returning to EPCOT, and Carousel of Progress is getting an update.

It’s a lot at once, but it also means there’s going to be plenty to watch as these projects move closer to opening.

Which update are you most excited about?

🌿 Sunday Sanctuary

On the cliffs above La Jolla, tucked up against the Torrey Pines reserve, there's a lodge that looks right out over the Pacific.

It's built in that warm old Craftsman style, natural wood, stone, soft light. Walking in feels less like checking into a hotel and more like arriving somewhere made for resting.

Mornings can start with a quiet hike through the pines. Afternoons drift toward the spa, where the treatments use local sage and herbs and the views open onto the ocean. Evenings settle in by the firepit as the coast turns gold. In between, there's a heated pool, a library full of games, and a whole lot of nowhere to be.

A real escape doesn't have to be far away. Sometimes it's just down the coast, waiting for you to exhale.

Accessible travel planning starts with one simple question: what will actually work for you?

That answer can look completely different from one traveler to the next.

Maybe it’s shorter walking distances, fewer stairs, easier transportation, more time between activities, or making sure the hotel setup really fits what you need.

That’s why I don’t look at accessibility as one box to check. I look at the person taking the trip and how all the pieces — hotel, transportation, activities, timing — are going to work together.

As an SNG Certified Accessible Travel Advocate, this is one of the things I pay close attention to when I’m helping someone plan.

If your idea of a Los Cabos trip is more quiet mornings, ocean views, good food and time to actually relax together, this adults-only stay is worth a look.

It sits along the Sea of Cortez and is built around the kind of trip where you don’t have to choose between slowing down and having things to do. There are pools and cabanas for the days you want absolutely nothing on the schedule, plus dining, entertainment, spa time and golf nearby when you want a little more.

It’s also a strong fit for couples celebrating something — honeymoons, anniversaries, destination weddings or simply a trip where the two of you want the setting to feel a little more special.

The biggest thing to know is that this one is adults-only, so it’s not the right match for a family trip. And while golf is nearby, this isn’t a stay I’d choose just because someone wants to spend every day on the course.

For the right couple, though, it gives you a really nice mix of relaxation, romance and enough going on that you don’t feel like you have to leave the resort every day.
