🐬 Why Do Dolphins Love to Surf Our Bow??? 👇👇
Ever wonder why dolphins race over and glide right in front of the boat? They’re not just showing off (although they are pretty good at that!)
As our boat moves through the water, the hull pushes water forward and creates a wave of displaced water called a bow wave. Dolphins can ride this wave just like a surfer rides an ocean wave, allowing them to travel with less effort while having a whole lot of fun.
Scientists believe bow-riding helps dolphins conserve energy, enjoy social interaction, and satisfy their naturally playful personalities. It’s one of the many reasons seeing dolphins up close on a cruise is such a magical experience!
Next time you see our fin-tastic friends surfing alongside us, you’ll know they’re catching a free ride on the wave we create. 🧜♀️✨🐬
