🚨 Galveston Bay Tuna 🚨

Put the light tackle up and bust out the heavy artillery because the Jacks are plummeting down the bay devouring everything in sight. These tanks aren’t alone along side them are Bull Reds and Sharks it seems as though the Clash of the titans are here and now. Between the causeway and the d**e you’ll find Trillions of Shad and even more minnows.
Once the tide gets to moving all the bait gets pushed and like a conveyor belt; the ship channel has become the super High way for these Giant predators to ambush their what’s seems to be never ending prey. But the fish aren’t the only ones indulging in such a prolific feed the birds have joined the party making a scene that is nothing short of a frenzy.

Epic surface explosions from slashing Jacks, bulldozing bull Reds has the gulls screaming bloody Murder as the water will occasionally turn red as Bull Sharks grab them a Jack or Bull.....

I’m calling it the CLASH of the TITANS. Jacks are bar none one of the Hardest fighting fish in the world, very much capable of pulling a Bull red or 2 backwards for about an hour 😂 nicked named the hour jack, canal tuna, the Jack Crevalle is not for the faint of heart. If you like to FIGHT a fish and get sporty the time is NOW!!

Striking Gold at Night and Exposing Big Dark Beasts by Day! I’ve had the honor of watching this kid grow up. We started him off with Specks and Slot Reds... he’s now graduated to inshore Giants!! When I first met him he could barley cast, now he’s pitching baits up close and tight to structure like a PRO!! Kids get to have all the FUN!!!!

Limits in Minutes!!
We started this morning with a Goal / target 🎯 these guys wanted to catch slot reds. We literally had 3 red fish and 2 sheepshead to the boat before we could actually start “fishing” we began this trip catching!!!

Hello Family, Friends, Anglers

Who here is ready for the first cold front to hit? The Extremely Hot Fun in the Sun has played itself into a dreadful tone of give me shade or Air Conditioning NOW!!! I’m EXTREMELY excited for what’s to come!!! But first and foremost I want to thank you for giving me your time so that I may inform you on what’s happening, what’s to come and what I predict this fall will be like based on last year’s data. I’m talking Red Fish out the w***o, Mangrove Snapper schools in the bay, Transitioning Speckled Trout, the flounder Run and the all Mighty BULL Red Run.

As some already know.... the Slot Reds have been schooling in Pensacola Bay by the hundreds. These fish range anywhere from 16-32”. It would seem as though whenever the mullet and or Pogies begin to migrate the smaller Slot Red Fish follow suit. This miraculous movement of fish is always triggered around Temperature Change, the Transition from summer to fall. I also believe fish can tell when the days become shorter/longer.... the amount of light within a day let’s fish and animals of all sorts that a change is coming. Now that you have a basic understanding of the “when” let’s go over the “how”

Keep it simple and basic, use a Carolina Rig!! A egg weight to a swivel and about a 3.5’ leader of 20-30 # fluro to a circle hook ( hook sized to your bait ) ( weight based on depth and current, use the lightest weight possible to get you on bottom )

*NOTE* This Rig works especially well when fishing deep main bodies of water such as Pensacola Bay / Pass / ship channels and Bridges. The type of bait I prefer is live shrimp or Pogies.

MONGO MANGI MANGROVES
Have been incredible this year! This has by far been the best Mangrove Snapper year I’ve ever seen!!! Limits and Giants the sure weight in the box filled by this fish has definitely tipped the scales for 2019!!

Much like the Slot Reds the Mangrove Snapper also get triggered by the noticeable change in the season. They to begin to gather in Schools around the same areas as the Red Fish ( as stated before ) but your approach to targeting this fish is much different.

In order to catch Mangrove Snapper you must down size. Go as natural as possible and offer them a bait in which they can’t refuse. I have found that the most effective way to catch mangroves is HIGH in the water column. Regardless of depth inshore or offshore I’ve caught 90% of them in about 10ft of water.

I’ll use my Speckled Trout Rods
-7’ Bull Bay Stealth Sniper Medium FAST Action Rod - Rated at 6-12 #
-15 # Braid Suffix 832
-6ft leader ( 20 # Fluro Seagar Red Label )
-Circle Hook ( small based on size and type of bait )
-Split Shot weight 1/16oz is where I start ( add more based on wind/current)

I have found that the BEST Bait for Mangi’s is a live LY, Shrimp, or small crab but shrimp is always very attainable so I use it the most.

Presentation
This is the most important tip I can give you about catching MANGI’s. You want your bait to slowly fall, move as if it’s swimming freely, and looking as natural as possible. This is obtainable by using light line, weight and small hooks. As well as keeping a little bit of slack in your line at all times. Cast up current and allow your bait to drift back. Once the bait has drifted towards you or beyond you make another cast up current and repeat.... this is what I call pitching. Pitching will allow you to also hit multiple targets or the same target but in different angles. Sometimes the fish want the bait drifting over their head in a specific way / angle so don’t be afraid to hit the same target multiple times if you suspect a fish to be there or more to be there.

We all have fascinations with sharks 🦈 ESPECIALLY KIDS!!! it’s that time of year “”SHARK WEEK OOO!!HA!HA”””” I personally enjoy putting the younger generation on smaller sharks 🦈 they fight really well, relatively easy to catch and come in a variety of species such as black tips, Bulls, sandbar, lemon, bonnet head, spinner l, tiger, hammerhead and mako. Shark fishing doesn’t ALWAYS have to be about chasing JAWS there are plenty of options and a wide scale of variety in size!! Fun for anyone who wants a close encounter with these APEX predators.
