๐ฆ๐ Endangered Species Day โข May 17, 2025 ๐๐
Endangered Species Day reminds us that every creature mattersโand many urgently need our help.
At Peoria Zoo, conservation is at the heart of what we doโand we are proud to care for several endangered species. Meet some of the incredible animals who are ambassadors for their species and the wild places they call home:
๐ฆ Grevyโs Zebra: Rarest of all zebras, less than 3,000 in the wild.
๐ฆ Mandrill: Vulnerable due to habitat loss, protecting their rainforest home is key to their survival
๐
Amur Tiger: Fewer than 500 remain in the wild due to habitat loss and poaching.
๐ฆ Southern White Rhino: Threatened but making a comeback with conservation support.
๐ Cotton-Top Tamarin: Critically endangered primate native to Colombia.
๐ Chinese Alligator: Fewer than 150 remain in the wild, making it one of the worldโs rarest crocodilians.
๐ก๏ธ Peoria Zoo is committed to protecting wildlife through education, conservation partnerships, and Species Survival Plans.
