Happy World Turtle Day! 🐢
Meet the Spotted Turtle (Clemmys guttata) — a small, semi-aquatic turtle with vibrant yellow spots that help it stand out (and blend in!). This unique turtle is threatened by habitat loss, water pollution, and illegal pet trade.

Endangered Species Day reminds us that every creature matters—and many urgently need our help.

At Peoria Zoo, conservation is at the heart of what we do—and we are proud to care for several endangered species. Meet some of the incredible animals who are ambassadors for their species and the wild places they call home:

🦓 Grevy’s Zebra: Rarest of all zebras, less than 3,000 in the wild.
🦍 Mandrill: Vulnerable due to habitat loss, protecting their rainforest home is key to their survival
🐅 Amur Tiger: Fewer than 500 remain in the wild due to habitat loss and poaching.
🦏 Southern White Rhino: Threatened but making a comeback with conservation support.
🐒 Cotton-Top Tamarin: Critically endangered primate native to Colombia.
🐊 Chinese Alligator: Fewer than 150 remain in the wild, making it one of the world’s rarest crocodilians.

🛡️ Peoria Zoo is committed to protecting wildlife through education, conservation partnerships, and Species Survival Plans.

🦒✨ Big news from Peoria Zoo! ✨🦒

Say hello to Fitz, the newest addition to our giraffe family! Fitz is just over a year old and has traveled from the Memphis Zoo to join our lovely ladies, Vivian and Emy. 🧡

He’s currently finishing up his quarantine period, but that hasn’t stopped him from making fast friends—Vivian and Emy are already giving him sweet giraffe kisses over the fence! 😍

Fitz is curious, playful, and full of personality. We can’t wait for you to meet him in person soon! Until then, follow along here for updates on his journey, fun facts, and plenty of adorable giraffe content. 🦒📸

At Peoria Zoo, we celebrate birds every day—but especially today, we’re spotlighting some of our favorite feathered friends who rely on healthy habitats and ecosystems during their incredible journeys:
