ine River. Just a stone's throw south is the Ossawinnamakee Chain of Lakes — another 7 lakes, located between Whitefish and Pelican Lakes. Our waters offer not only a spectacular setting for a vacation, but also a great opportunity to catch a fish, splash along a sugar sand beach and relax afloat the clear water's top — the best the Brainerd Lakes Area has to offer. The beautiful, natural scenery of the Whitefish Area extends beyond the shore's edge, with trails for hiking and biking, as well as snowmobiling and cross country skiing. The Whitefish Chain Region is home to many Paul Bunyans. The Paul Bunyan Trail, a 100+ mile rails to trails project offers a flat, paved surface ideal for biking, rollerblading or walking. The National Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway driving route also winds its way completely around the Whitefish Chain, offering information and entertaining kiosks on the historical, archaeological, cultural, recreational and scenic qualities of the region. There are 20 golf courses within a 30 mile radius of the Whitefish Area, and a great variety of restaurants from fine dining to lakeside dining and everything in between. Family-friendly attractions (which include horseback riding, mini-golf and museums) are ideal for kids of all ages, and the shopping is almost as good as the fishing. And, of course, a great variety of family-owned lodging options provide a getaway for all who travel north.
