IT'S A BEAUTIFUL WINTER'S DAY throughout the Virginia's Retreat region! Here's an image taken this morning at a small lake down in Mecklenburg County, Virginia!

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MORNING! The snow is melting very quickly and the main roads are clear - a great excuse to drive around and see this rare sight in Mecklenburg County!

We just took this picture a few minutes ago at Lake Gordon, which used to be part of the Lombardy Grove community in the 1800's...

THIS GREAT ORGANIZATION does work that enhances the visitor experience in several of the counties in the Virginia's Retreat region - thanks for all your efforts!

THERE ARE DEDICATED FOLKS and organizations working very hard behind the scenes on several projects around the county that are improving our communities and enhancing our quality of life.

One of those is Upper Reach, who, among other things, is mapping our waterways for paddlers and installing these signs (we took this picture at Rudd's Creek Park a few weeks ago) throughout the region. Many many thanks to you (and the other organizations) for your selfless efforts!!

EVEN FARMERS GET SNOW DAYS AROUND HERE. We're loving this beautiful shot from local Jenny Warren near South Hill this morning - a light dusting has set the stage for some great pictures, and safe enough roads to go out and take them!

TAKE A BREAK in between your Civil War sightseeing to check out our natural beauty - our region is at the northern edge of a wide variety of migratory birds' winter ranges, so make sure you pack those binoculars and explore down some of our beautiful country roads, waterways and lakes!

HERE COMES THE SUN, doo-n-dooh-dooh. We were just at the John H. Kerr Reservoir (Buggs Island Lake), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers visitor's assistance center near North Bend Park when the sun poked through the clouds.

According to the park managers, they have seen tons of birds lately; maybe due to the polar vortex event from last week? Not sure, but it's a beautiful time for nature lovers to be exploring our area. There's even been a peregrine falcon sighting in the past week near the dam - get those binoculars out!
