Born in Bergamo Italy, 10 years ago I followed my husband Jeff Michaud back to the United States. Our love and passion for the food of Italy rewarded him with a successful culinary career, a Best Chef James Beard Award and his cook book "Eating Italy". And inspired me to launch LA VIA GAIA and design exclusive culinary experiences in Italy to discover the dynamic culture, w**e tradition and elevated cuisine of my land.

Our first stop with Chef Rob Gentile Jeff Michaud takes us to Antica Corte Pallavicina, where Chef Massimo Spigaroli has dedicated his life to preserving one of Italy’s most treasured culinary traditions: Culatello di Zibello.

We’ll begin with an aperitivo in the centuries-old aging cellars, where rows of culatello hang patiently, before sitting down for lunch at Spigaroli’s Michelin-starred restaurant.

A fitting start to our time in Modena, celebrating the people, traditions, and flavors that make this region so special.

From our oasis in the Val d’Itria we’ll take day trips to experience the iconic places and artisans of the region. This is the best season to discover Puglia during the olive oil harvest. It’s time to get our hands dirty and make traditional burrata, stracciatella and nodini with curds from rich, fresh milk, produced from our artisan friend Mariangela family’s farm.

Our Culinary Guest Ellen Yin is bringing that spirit to Philadelphia with the opening of Bar Cicci, her new all-day aperitivo bar in Rittenhouse Square. From morning cornetti to evening cicchetti, it’s a celebration of the Italian rituals of gathering and enjoying the moment — a culture we love and one of the many reasons we’re drawn back to Italy, again and again.

We’re thrilled that Ellen will be bringing that same curiosity and appreciation for Italian food and culture with her when she joins us in Puglia for our sold-out journey this September.

As Ellen reflected on her travels through Northern Italy:
