Born in Bergamo Italy, 10 years ago I followed my husband Jeff Michaud back to the United States. Our love and passion for the food of Italy rewarded him with a successful culinary career, a Best Chef James Beard Award and his cook book "Eating Italy". And inspired me to launch LA VIA GAIA and design exclusive culinary experiences in Italy to discover the dynamic culture, wine tradition and elevated cuisine of my land.

Sicily, you have our hearts 🍋

We just wrapped up our very first La Via Gaia journey through this incredible island alongside Chef and our Sicilian experts — from the ancient salt pans of Marsala to the volcanic landscapes of Mount Etna.

Along the way, we explored Palermo’s vibrant markets, shared rustic meals with local shepherds, met Sicily’s legendary wine families, and connected deeply with the people and traditions that make this island so unforgettable.
This may have been our first Sicily journey, but it certainly won’t be our last. 🌋🍷

Here is your first hint: During our hands-on cooking classes on this trip, we will be pressing dough on a traditional grooved wooden board to make the region’s signature pasta shape.

Friuli & Slovenia
Friuli Venezia Giulia sits at a fascinating crossroads where Italy, Austria, and Slovenia meet—and you can taste that blend of cultures in every glass of wine and every plate of food. It’s a region that feels authentic, uncrowded, and deeply rooted in tradition, where family-run wineries, alpine villages, and seaside cities all exist within a short drive of one another. It’s also a place filled with friends who welcome us like family and share their stories, kitchens, and vineyards with our travelers.

Lake Garda
We launched our La Via Gaia trips here, taking over a farmhouse to welcome our very first guests. Since then this region has became our Summer weekend getaway to enjoy stunning scenery, outdoor activities, and some of our favorite foods.
