La Via Gaia

La Via Gaia We specialize in Exclusive Experiential getaways that immerse you in the dynamic culture and captivating flavors of Italy.

Born in Bergamo Italy, 10 years ago I followed my husband Jeff Michaud back to the United States. Our love and passion for the food of Italy rewarded him with a successful culinary career, a Best Chef James Beard Award and his cook book "Eating Italy". And inspired me to launch LA VIA GAIA and design exclusive culinary experiences in Italy to discover the dynamic culture, w**e tradition and elevated cuisine of my land.

Our Culinary Guest Ellen Yin is bringing that spirit to Philadelphia with the opening of Bar Cicci, her new all-day aperitivo bar in Rittenhouse Square. From morning cornetti to evening cicchetti, it’s a celebration of the Italian rituals of gathering and enjoying the moment — a culture we love and one of the many reasons we’re drawn back to Italy, again and again.

We’re thrilled that Ellen will be bringing that same curiosity and appreciation for Italian food and culture with her when she joins us in Puglia for our sold-out journey this September.

As Ellen reflected on her travels through Northern Italy:

“It's amazing how travel often brings us unexpected and serendipitous moments…”

Here’s to many more serendipitous moments — in Philadelphia and in Puglia.

Piemonte keeps its own time.

Next October, we’re spending a week following its rhythm with Jeff Michaud and Colin Lynch, hunting white truffles in the Langhe with our friend Natale and his dog, hand-pinching agnolotti del plin in a country kitchen, and driving the Strada del Vino in a classic Fiat 500.

October 17–23, 2027. Sixteen guests. One final journey to Piemonte for the year.

Priority Access opens first, before reservations go public. Comment UNLOCK and we’ll send the link straight to your inbox.

This is the truffles birthplace.

In the Langhe, truffle hunting is the stuff of legends—beneath the forest floor, skilled trifulau like Natale uncover these prized treasures, known for their unmistakable aroma.

On our journey to Piemonte in the fall it is truffle season, and though these buried treasures are notoriously elusive, Natale’s trusty truffle dog guide us through the forests as they sniff out the scent of these fungi.

After our hunt, we all sit down for a truffle tasting and dive into the fascinating world of these “diamonds of the kitchen.”

Our final 2027 journey is to this beloved destination - Piemonte.

You don’t want to miss it.

What makes a La Via Gaia journey so special?

It’s the people.

On our 2027 Sardinia Journey, one of the experiences we’re most excited to share is Breakfast with the Shepherd—a morning spent in a traditional pinnatzu, where our guests will learn to make Su Cagiau, share a rustic breakfast, and hear stories from those who continue to preserve Sardinia’s rich pastoral traditions.

This isn’t a performance for visitors. It’s an authentic glimpse into a way of life that has endured for generations, and one we’re honored to share with our guests.

A heartfelt thank you to our friends at Mannos for thoughtfully curating this extraordinary experience and for introducing us to the remarkable people who make Sardinia so special.

Our 2027 Sardinia Journey is officially sold out, and we can’t wait to share these unforgettable moments with our guests this September.

Our home in Piemonte for our final journey of 2027 — launching soon.

With only 11 suites, Dai Gresy feels less like a hotel and more like staying with family — each room unique, dressed in soft natural tones, with views that stretch across the vineyards.

Dai Grésy sits on the ridge of Monte Aribaldo, the line dividing the villages of Barbaresco and Treiso. It began as a farmhouse on that same hill, restored by the di Grésy family who has held vineyards there since 1650.

We spend our week in Langhe, the hills that gave the world Barolo and Barbaresco and now hold UNESCO World Heritage status because of it.

In 2019, it became a home for guests: a stone and brick cellar, a spa with a jacuzzi and sauna, a lounge built for doing nothing at all.

The saltwater infinity pool sits right at the edge of it all, the hills rolling out in front of you as far as you can see.

You don’t want to miss this final journey of 2027.

What makes traveling with La Via Gaia different?

Food is at the heart of every La Via Gaia journey. Each itinerary is designed by chefs who believe the best way to understand a place is by sharing its table. Cooking classes, market visits, w**e tastings, and unforgettable meals become opportunities to connect with the people and traditions that define each region.

The people behind every journey.

The people who welcome our guests aren’t simply partners—they’re lifelong friends who have opened their homes, vineyards, shops, and traditions to us for years. They are the w**emakers, cheesemakers, fishermen, artisans, and home cooks preserving Italy’s culinary and cultural heritage.

Intimate by design

With just sixteen guests on each departure, every journey remains deeply personal. We carefully select accommodations that reflect the character of each destination—whether that’s a beautifully restored villa, a historic masseria, a family-owned boutique hotel, or a w**e estate.

Don’t miss the last trip of 2027

Our final trip of 2027 will be to Piemonte. Booking isn’t open yet — join the priority list to be the first to know when reservations are live before the public.
