I realized something looking back at my recent photos:

I’ve actually been doing quite a bit of traveling this summer.

I just haven’t been going very far. 😂

There have been hikes and museums, days on the water, neighborhood discoveries, old-school arcade games, go-karting, good food and quite a few things I didn’t know I was going to find until I got there.

I’ve started thinking of these little adventures as my Local Pursuits.

I love a passport stamp as much as ever. But I also love getting in the car, heading somewhere interesting and seeing what the day turns into.

Sometimes that means exploring a town I haven’t spent much time in. Sometimes it’s trying something new. Sometimes it’s finding something interesting practically in my own backyard.

Turns out, curiosity travels pretty well without a passport. 😉

And yes, I’m already thinking about the next Local Pursuit.

Who wants to come?

I spend a lot of time encouraging people to travel farther.

But every once in a while, I need the reminder that exploration doesn’t always require a boarding pass.

Kevin and I spent a few hours at America On Wheels in Allentown, PA.

Somewhere between climbing into this vintage car and laughing through the photo, I was reminded that curiosity doesn’t care how far you’ve traveled.

Sometimes it’s halfway around the world.

Sometimes it’s right in your own backyard.

Either way, the best experiences begin the same way: by saying yes to the ride!

Where in your life could you stand to be a little more “along for the ride”?

In my mind, Bedford, New York was horse farms, beautiful estates, and Martha Stewart.

If I’m being honest, it wasn’t a place I had ever really imagined for myself. I had decided it was a place where I didn’t belong.

Then I went.

What surprised me most wasn’t the beauty.
It was how at home I felt in it.

Sometimes you have to go see for yourself.

Sometimes the luxury isn’t a long-haul flight or a packed itinerary. Sometimes it’s a quiet morning, fresh air, and a change of scenery that reminds you to slow down.

A quick escape can do wonders for the mind, body, and soul. A slower pace. A beautiful setting. Time to breathe deeply, sleep a little longer, and reconnect with yourself outside of your daily routine. That’s exactly what this stay at Bedford Post Inn has been giving me.

Sometimes the reset you need is much closer than you think. ✨
