Spooky season deserves a weekend getaway. 🎃🍂

A pumpkin-patch train ride, cavern adventures, a haunted hayride and fall colors from the water. Pennsylvania’s Raystown Lake Region has plenty to fill an October weekend with the family.

Here are five outings you can still enjoy this month, plus a few ideas for making a getaway of it!

🚂 PUMPKIN PATCH EXPRESS | East Broad Top Railroad

Getting to the pumpkin patch is part of the fun! Ride a historic train to Colgate Grove for pumpkin decorating, wagon rides, games and more before the return trip. Each child ticket for ages 2–12 includes a pumpkin.

📅 October 17–18, 24–25 and 31

🕙 Departures: 10 AM, 11:30 AM, 1 PM and 2:30 PM. Plan about 2½ hours.

🎟️ Coach/open-air tickets: $28 adults, $22 ages 2–12. Children under 2 ride free when not occupying a seat.

Take spooky season underground! Saturday daytime family tours combine a haunted cave, a natural cave tour and a hayride. Children ages 4–12 also get gem panning included.

For a crew that wants bigger scares, Evening Terror Tours include a haunted cave, haunted trail and haunted hayride.

A movie inside a historic mansion feels just right for spooky season. Begin with a mansion tour, then settle into its small theater for the featured Halloween film.

New this year, these family-friendly Halloween weekends bring together select rides, puppet shows, a petting zoo, balloon creations, Buddy Bear appearances and fall-themed food.

Stay by the lake at Lake Raystown Resort, explore downtown Huntingdon and leave time for local meals and a scenic overlook.

We stopped at Nanny Mae’s Café, had lunch at Spring Diner after the railroad and enjoyed dinner at the resort’s Marina Café. The seasonal salad with squash and cranberries was especially fitting for fall.

Pick the outings that suit your family, reserve your timed activities first and build the rest of the weekend around them. Check current schedules before heading out.
