The unofficial opening day of the 2026 musky season in Price County was a day we won’t forget!
They were eating everything; flies, swimdawgs, the Archimedes, and even our walleyes while reeling them in.
Lot of lumps and bruises on these fish from our recent high water and obviously spawning. Still a bunch of fish around after doing their thing. (100% chance they were spawning after May 2nd)

My first clients of the year smashed the smallmouth with non-stop action the entire way down the river!
As the day warmed up we found pods of fish tailing and rolling on top, sippin’ bugs!
Our Elk River Rods & Outfitters got a workout and the Pro Tour Baits swim minnows and worms were getting tore up all day!

Back in March we had a booth across from Jess and Ross at the Wisconsin Fishing Expo and told them about this epic smallmouth bite we got up by us and they jumped at the opportunity. It’s not often when you get to watch the change of the seasons unfold before your eyes but we did! We watched as smallies climbed the the river, piling into the soft spots along sides of the skinny water. Glad to kick it off in such an epic fashion, excited for the year ahead!

The maiden voyage had a couple kinks but we figured it out and found some great fish to kick off the 2026 Wisconsin fishing season in our brand new 13ft raft!
We’ve had a lot of walleyes hit the grease this weekend but also found some local beauties who wanted to the walleye minnows/plastics!

Please give the muskies a break for a couple weeks, they’re stacked up and could use a free pass.

If I could catch big prespawn female smallmouth all the time I would, they’re a blast to fight in the current! Working every year on dialing in the prespawn smallmouth bite has been fun but with rain, water temps, along with water/flow levels changing day-to-day it can take a little work to keep your finger on em.

Getting better every year! Here are some big females we found before they climbed into the river in the big boat this weekend! Float trips will be firing up this upcoming weekend and then we are in full swing! Hope to see y’all out there beating em up for opening weekend of fishing in Wisconsin!

As I began to prepare the fishing gear for the upcoming season and various walleye runs; I remembered the last day of open water fishing in 2025 which resulted in 10 muskies landed.
Most of these fish were landed on a 7’ medium-light spinning rod from Elk River Rods & Outfitters while chasing walleyes on a jig & minnow.
It is almost time to get out to chase some more cold-water walleyes and I have a feeling it’s going to be a fun spring!
