Founded in '08, Save The Records is an independent vinyl store and distributor specializing in collectible new and used records, CDs, and tapes from all genres of music. The Save The Records crew are united by a passion for music and club culture in general, and a near-obsessive love of vinyl records in particular. Between us we've accumulated over 50 years experience in music and lifestyle-related fields across a variety of roles: label owners, record importers & distributors, DJs, producers, promoters and much more. Most importantly, we've never lost the enthusiasm from the things that first inspired us, whether listening to the radio as kids, seeing a favorite band in concert or digging through record bins (remember those?) on the day the new releases came in.

On This Day In Music History in 1977,
Meat Loaf unleashed his legendary debut masterpiece, "Bat Out of Hell." Developed with songwriter Jim Steinman and produced by Todd Rundgren, this bombastic blend of opera, theater, and pure rock 'n' roll gave us timeless anthems like "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad," and the epic title track.
Though critics were initially unsure what to make of it, the world fell completely in love, turning it into one of the best-selling albums of all time with over 50 million copies sold worldwide! Rolling Stone ranked it at number 343 on its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All-time.

Three days ago we celebrated the anniversary of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s release of ‘Street Survivors’ - and the response from this community was overwhelming.

Among the hundreds of memories shared a comment from a very special voice: Joy Hall, who served as the National Album Director at MCA Records at the time.

Reflecting on the rollercoaster week, she shared what it was like inside the label: “That day, October 17th was a huge day for me… I had become the National Album Director of MCA Records in May of 1977 and it was a huge release that meant a great deal to me. It was a great day! The album debuted at #1 on the Album Airplay charts and we were celebrating… Then came October 20th… we weren’t celebrating anymore… It was awful… These were really nice guys… Awful!”

Today marks the tragic anniversary of the plane crash that changed rock history forever. As Joy’s words remind us, ‘Street Survivors’ will always carry an unmatched weight- representing both a high-water mark and a devastating loss.

Even though Atlantic Records initially pushed back, smart radio play turned it into a massive global phenomenon that gave us timeless hits like "Never Tear Us Apart," "Devil Inside," and "New Sensation."

On This Day In Music History in 1988, rock history was made when the ultimate supergroup—George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty—released Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1!
What began as a casual gathering in a garage to quickly record a simple B-side ("Handle with Care") turned out to be far too magical to throw away. Realizing they had captured lightning in a bottle, these musical icons decided to form a band, adopt hilarious alter egos (Nelson, Otis, Lucky, Lefty, and Charlie T. Jr.), and record a full album together.
Fueled by mutual respect and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, the project became a massive commercial and critical triumph. It earned a Grammy, went triple platinum, and even helped revitalize the careers of Dylan and Petty. Tragically, it remains the only Wilburys album featuring the legendary Roy Orbison, who passed away shortly after its release.
More than three decades later, their effortless chemistry and timeless harmonies continue to sound like pure magic.

Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd released their powerful fifth studio album, Street Survivors.

Featuring timeless tracks like "What's Your Name" and "That Smell," the album marked a bittersweet milestone—serving as the final studio recording for Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins, and introducing the incredible talent of guitarist Steve Gaines.
Tragically, just three days after its release, a devastating plane crash claimed the lives of Van Zant, Steve and Cassie Gaines, and several crew members, forever changing rock history. Despite the tragedy, the album became their highest-charting release, cementing a legacy that still rocks today.

On this day in music history, October in 1981 U2 released their sophomore studio album, October!

Recorded at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin amidst a whirlwind drama—including Bono famously losing a briefcase full of his lyric sheets and ideas—the band had to lean into a hurried, improvisational groove. The record captured a fascinating crossroads for the young rock group as they grappled with their spiritual beliefs and their roaring rock and roll lifestyle.
From The Edge experimenting with the piano to the haunting inclusion of Uilleann pipes on "Tomorrow," and the iconic MTV-ready canal music video for "Gloria," October laid down a raw and soulful album.

On This Day In Music History in 1957, country music was forever changed when the Man in Black dropped his debut album: Johnny Cash with His Hot and Blue Guitar!

Before this landmark release, Sun Records founder Sam Phillips told a young Johnny Cash to ditch the gospel tunes and find a more commercial sound. Cash returned with the Tennessee Two, and a boom-chicka-boom rhythm, and some history.
Packed with timeless heavy-hitters like "I Walk the Line," "Folsom Prison Blues," and "Cry! Cry! Cry!", this record didn't just launch a legendary career—it laid the blueprint for the entire genre. 🚂🖤

On This Day In Music History in 1987 Bruce Springsteen traded stadium-sized fist-pumping and The E Street Band for pure, unfiltered emotional wreckage with the release of Tunnel of Love—The Boss writes and sings about the harsh reality of a dying marriage. While his personal life with Julianne Phillips was quietly falling apart, Bruce locked himself in a room with a drum machine, synthesizers, and a mirror.
What came out was a masterclass in heartbreak. Tracks like "Brilliant Disguise", "Tougher Than the Rest", and "One Step Up" ripped away the armor of mature love, exposing the insecurity and quiet panic hiding underneath.
