Never too early to start learning the family business! 🎈🔥

Taylor’s giving Charlotte a little hands-on lesson in balloon inflation, and judging by that smile, she’s a pretty willing student. Dad might want to keep an eye on his job… the next generation of Arizona Balloons is already in training! 😂

August 11-17, 1978

Today marks an anniversary that every contemporary balloonist knows and almost every New Mexican too. In 1978, a dream that began in 1873 and had 13 unsuccessful attempts was finally achieved by the balloonists Ben Abruzzo, Maxie Anderson, and Larry Newman. These New Mexican balloonists have gone down in history as the first to cross the Atlantic Ocean by balloon and first by gas balloon. The balloon, “Double Eagle II” was the balloonists’ second attempt, the envelope was built by Ed Yost and was 112 feet tall and 65 feet in diameter with an open top gondola named “The Spirit of Albuquerque.”

They left Presque Isle, Maine on August 11 and flew for 137 hours and 6 minutes and landed in a field outside of Miserey, France on August 17, also setting the record for the longest time a balloon was aloft (record broken in 2015 by the “Two Eagles Balloon”).

The “Double Eagle II’s” gondola (“Spirit of Albuquerque") is on display in the Ultralight Aircraft at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA. It is owned by the Smithsonian, National Air and Space Museum.

Come explore the Balloon Museum’s exhibit celebrating our namesakes and their historic flight in the “Double Eagle II”! In the Grand Hall, step inside a life-size replica of the “Double Eagle II” and discover the remarkable story behind this historic achievement.

Illinois, we're almost back! 🎈

On July 31, we'll be heading to beautiful Galena to spend the next 10 days flying with our friends at Galena On The Fly while they're at the National Balloon Classic.

This has become one of our favorite summer traditions. We love the scenery, the amazing people, and getting to share the incredible views over Galena with passengers from all over the country.

If you're planning a trip to Galena, we hope to see you in the basket beginning July 31. It's going to be an incredible 10 days!

See you in the skies, Illinois! 🇺🇸🎈

For one week each summer, we trade the desert skies for the rolling hills of northwest Illinois... and we can't wait! 🎈

July 31 – August 8, you'll find the Arizona Balloons crew flying in beautiful Galena while our friends at Galena On The Fly head to the National Balloon Classic in Indianola, Iowa.

We've flown all over the country, but there's something special about watching the sun rise (or set) over the bluffs, valleys, and countryside of Galena. It's one of our favorite places to share the magic of ballooning, and we can't wait to welcome new and returning passengers aboard.

If you're planning a summer getaway, come see why Galena is one of our favorite places to fly. We'll see you in the skies!

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧!

In less than two weeks, we'll be packing up the balloons and heading north to join our friends at Galena On The Fly for the 2026 Great Galena Balloon Race.

It's one of our favorite weekends of the year—beautiful scenery, great people, and a field full of colorful balloons launching into the sky.

We can't wait to see familiar faces, meet new ones, and help support an event that raises money for Breakthrough T1D and Camp Hertko Hollow.
Galena... we're almost there!
