5am wake-up calls aren't usually something we look forward to.

There's a reason morning game drives start early and once you're out there, you'll understand why.



Before the heat of the day sets in, wildlife tends to be more active and on the move.



Lions, leopards and other predators may still be hunting, feeding or making their way back after a busy night.

World Gorilla Day 🦍

Mountain gorilla populations are growing. In 2018, the species was reclassified from Critically Endangered to Endangered, one of the few genuine conservation success stories in modern wildlife history.

World Rhino Day. A species facing serious pressure. 🦏

The numbers are blunt:
📉 Black rhino: ~6,500 individuals remaining. Critically endangered.
📊 White rhino: ~18,000: vulnerable. The northern white rhino has two surviving females. The subspecies is functionally extinct.

And yet there is genuine, documented hope. Here's why:

✅ Private conservancies in South Africa, Kenya and Zimbabwe are growing protected populations through intensive anti-poaching investment
🔬 Rhino translocation programmes are moving animals into new, protected ranges
🌍 Community-based conservation, giving local people economic stake in protection, is proving more effective than enforcement alone
🤝 Responsible tourism directly funds anti-poaching: the economics are clear and consistent
