Reminder: Starting February 1, if you don’t have a REAL ID or acceptable form of ID (like a passport!) for domestic flights, you may pay a $45 fee to verify your identity through TSA ConfirmID. A passport card ($30) or passport book are both accepted REAL ID alternatives for domestic air travel and can help you avoid this fee, but just remember that a passport card cannot be used for international air travel (you'll need a passport book for that). Learn more about the Real ID policy at TSA.gov/real-id and about passport cards at travel.state.gov/passportcard.

✈️ URGENT TRAVEL ALERT — JANUARY 3, 2026
Due to U.S. military strikes in Venezuela today and ongoing military activity, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued an emergency airspace restriction over Venezuela and nearby areas, including Curaçao. Commercial and private U.S. aircraft are not permitted to fly in that airspace right now because it’s unsafe for flight operations.

Because of this restriction and real-time operational changes:

🚫 Major U.S. airlines (American, United, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest) are canceling or altering flights across the Caribbean and northern South America.
🛫 European carriers and others are also experiencing delays and schedule disruptions due to reroutes.
🛑 Puerto Rico’s San Juan (SJU) has suspended most U.S. airline operations under the FAA directive.

Destinations currently reported impacted (flights canceled or delayed):
• San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)
• Aguadilla, Puerto Rico (BQN)
• Ponce, Puerto Rico (PSE)
• St. Thomas, USVI (STT)
• St. Croix, USVI (STX)
• Santiago, Dominican Republic (STI)
• Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ)
• Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ)
• St. Maarten (SXM)
• Barbados (BGI)
• Trinidad and Tobago (POS)
• Aruba (AUA)
• Curaçao (CUR)
• Bonaire (BON)
• Antigua (ANU)
• Grenada (GND)
• St. Lucia (UVF)
• Guyana (GEO)
🛬 And more Caribbean destinations may be added as the situation evolves.

🚢 Cruise passengers: This doesn’t just affect flights — some cruise itineraries that rely on air connections or flyover routes may be adjusted, delayed, or ports changed because of broader regional airspace and safety considerations.

📞 What to DO RIGHT NOW:
➡️ Contact your airline immediately for up-to-the-minute status on your flight and options.
➡️ If you’re traveling to or from any Caribbean destination today, do not assume your flight is operating as scheduled — double-check before heading out.
➡️ If you have a travel agent, contact them now — we can help you confirm alternatives, rebook, and get you where you need to go with the least stress possible.

We’re monitoring this closely and will update as more confirmed information becomes available. Your safety and peace of mind come first.

Hoping to travel more in 2026? Here are our top tips!

1️⃣ – Make sure your passport is travel-ready. Many countries require at least six months validity remaining on your passport to enter. If you need to renew, you may be eligible to do it online! Learn more at travel.state.gov/renewonline.

2️⃣ – Be aware of local laws. Travelers are subject to local laws. Just because something is legal in the United States, does not mean it’s legal where you are traveling. Be especially careful not to pack any prohibited items or banned medications for your destination. Review the State Department’s specific information for your destination at travel.state.gov/destination before traveling.

3️⃣ – Review the current Travel Advisory. The State Department issues a Travel Advisory for all destinations based on risks, ranging from Level 1 (Exercise Normal Precautions) to Level 4 (Do Not Travel). Read the advisory level and info for your destination at travel.state.gov/destination.

4️⃣ – Sign up for STEP. The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service for U.S. citizens to receive safety updates and alerts from the local U.S. embassy while abroad. It also makes it easier for the Embassy to contact you in an emergency. Sign up at step.state.gov

5️⃣ – Check your health insurance. Many U.S. health insurance plans (including Medicare) do not cover medical costs outside the United States. Medical evacuation by air ambulance can cost up to $200,000 depending on where you are and your health condition. Consider buying travel insurance that includes medical evacuation coverage.

Reminder: You MUST carry your physical U.S. passport to travel internationally. Digital passports (uploading your U.S. passport information to your phone’s wallet as a form of Digital ID) cannot be used for international travel.
