Spending the day in Heidelberg was a fairytale…each city we visit is prettier than the last!

Part of our group went to the castle, while the other half took a hike along Philosopher’s Way for some amazing views. We had a traditional German lunch, enjoyed spotting the many “dogs of Heidelberg”, and explored the city’s Old Town for a few hours. This is such a fun university town, with university buildings spread out all over the city. Our guide, Nils, was fantastic - he’s studying at the university getting a double masters degree, and he told us some great stories as he escorted us. We were able to try the “Student Kiss” chocolate and had some gelato downtown too.

We were back on our ship in time for tea, which is always the best! Then it was time to relax before cocktail hour and dinner, and a local violinist came onboard to play for us.

What a fun day! We are so loving this experience!

Koblenz, Cable Cars, and Castles - it was an exciting day from beginning to end!

We started in Koblenz, where the Rhine and Moselle Rivers meet - we took a cable car across the river high up to the fortress - the second mightiest fortress in Europe after Gibraltar.

We had time to explore this quaint city, checking out the oldest church in Koblenz with parts from the first century (!!!), the Cheeky Boy Fountain, the fantastic Advent Calendar…and managed to find a yummy caramel shop as well!

In the late afternoon, we laid out in beach chairs on the sun deck as we sailed up the Rhine through the Rhine Gorge, spotting about 20 castles! Crew came up with special drinks and treats, making it even more special!

In the evening after dinner, we stopped in Bingen and went to Rheinstein Castle…400 steps up we were treated to a private reception. All the teen girls in our group saw this as the opportunity for the best photo shoot ever, perched high above the Rhine River!

Truly a magical castle-filled day! Next stop, the charming university town of Heidelberg tomorrow!

Rollin’ on the Rhine…hanging out in the hot tub after dinner! We have discovered that river cruising with kids, parents, grandparents, and friends is the BEST!

What a time in Düsseldorf, Germany!

Our group divided and conquered - an e-bike ride, a city tour, and a city foodie tour were all fun options for today!

After tours, we had until 5pm to explore - and we loved meandering through one of the city’s outdoor markets with fresh breads, cheeses, meat, fruits and vegetables, and flowers.

After we were back onboard, we enjoyed tea time, dinner, and then some live music in the lounge! The sun sets after 10pm, so we also took in the incredible views from the sundeck and the kids had a party in the hot tub!

Today, we started the day with tours in Amsterdam. There were some great choices!
1️⃣ A guided canal boat cruise and walking tour of Amsterdam
2️⃣ Kayaking in the canals
3️⃣ A Van Gogh art class
4️⃣ An Amsterdam “off the beaten path” tour

We went on the canal boat cruise, and got a nice tour of Amsterdam’s canals and rivers, and then split up into even smaller groups for a walk through the Jewish Quarter. We walked with Robert, a lifelong local who told us some really poignant stories about life in the city during World War II.

We came back to our ship for lunch - on Avalon, you can choose from lunch in the dining room or in the lounge, and typically the menus are all regional, so we had yummy Dutch options (the Stampot again! And some delicious Dutch cheese soup with Rye croutons).

Then, we set sail to Düsseldorf! It’s so nice to have the whole afternoon and evening on the river - time for a nap, reading a book, playing cards, enjoying the view.

Tea, coffee, tea sandwiches, and cakes at 4pm, Happy Hour at 6, and dinner at 7! After dinner, a dance party of classics in the lounge.

With a busy morning, how nice to have a relaxing afternoon and evening! We saw so many sheep on the riverbanks!

Such a big day in Amsterdam! Here are the highlights:

❤️ We started with a delicious breakfast buffet at our hotel, Barbizon Palace. Stay tuned for a reel showcasing the peanut butter and chocolate hazelnut butter served in mini cones (like an ice cream soft-serve mini machine!).

❤️ A stroll through Amsterdam with stops for cheese (of course!), poffertjes (mini fluffy pancakes dusted with powdered sugar) and Stroopwafel at local shops.

❤️ Meet up with friends for a private lecture at the Anne Frank House and a tour set up ,by Redonna! The lecture was perfect and set the stage for the tour of the Annex. Anne Frank and her family hid for over 700 days before being captured by N***s and sent to concentration camps; only Anne’s father survived. Seeing the Annex in person was so powerful.

❤️ Lunch at a local cafe, where the bacon pancake, Dutch Stampot, and ham toastie stole the show.

❤️ Time to board our ship, the Avalon Panorama, and settle in for a week of exploring small towns and sights in Germany and France!

❤️ The crew surprised John David with a big cake for his 13th birthday and decorated his room while we were at dinner!

Tomorrow - a half day in Amsterdam and then we set sail for Düsseldorf!

After a couple days in London, it’s time for Amsterdam! Eurorail’s direct train from London to Amsterdam makes this easy - it’s a four hour trip right into the center of Amsterdam!

We arrived at Centraal Station, and walked over to our hotel, the Barbizon Palace - great location for us with easy access to everything!

We had dinner on the water and took a canal cruise. It’s so fun to sail through the neighborhoods and learn neat facts. From crooked houses to kissing bridges, we learned a lot and had fun!

One quick stop at a bakery for some Dutch Apple Pie, and ready for bed!

It’s a jolly holiday in London! It’s time for a BIG summer vacation - first stop London, then on to Amsterdam and a river cruise down the Rhine River, with stops in Germany and France before we end in Basel, Switzerland.

🇮🇹 After two years of dreaming and planning, our Senior Travel Advisor, Amy Collins, has officially touched down in Italy with her family! They’re spending the next 10 days soaking in all things Italy—celebrating her eldest daughter’s high school graduation in the most unforgettable way. ✨🍝
