First time travelling internationally? Read this before you book anything!!

Every week I talk to first-time travellers who didn’t know what they didn’t know — and it cost them time, money, or a trip that almost didn’t happen.

So here’s the checklist I give every single new client before they go anywhere:

|| PASSPORT ||
✔ Valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates
✔ Has at least 2 blank pages for stamps
✔ Digital copy saved to your phone AND email
Most countries require 6-month validity — not just that it hasn’t expired.

|| VISA ||
✔ Check if your destination requires one for Canadian/your passport holders
✔ Confirm processing time (some take weeks)
✔ Check if you need a visa on arrival vs. pre-approved
✔ Verify entry requirements haven’t changed recently
Always refer to the Government of Canada website for reliable & trusted sources

|| CURRENCY ||
✔ Know the local currency before you land
✔ Notify your bank of travel dates
✔ Carry a small amount of local cash for arrival
✔ Know the current exchange rate so you don’t get taken advantage of
✔ Have a no-foreign-transaction-fee card as backup

Airport exchange desks have the worst rates. Always.

None of that is available on Expedia. Or Google. Or the hotel’s own website.

It exists exclusively through travel advisors with preferred supplier relationships — and it costs you absolutely nothing extra.

This is why people who travel well, travel with an advisor.
