My outing for the week was to Agrigento to the Valley of the Temples, and to the iconic white cliffs of southern Sicily called Scala dei Turchi or the Stairs of the Turks. The white limestone cliffs are situated picturesqly between two beaches, and are in the formation of rows of steps. This stunning natural formation was named to the Unesco World heritage list in 2007. The name Turks is derived from the Sarcenian raiders during the middle ages, referred to as “The Turks”, who took shelter there. I was able to climb the stairs from the beach and take in the breathtaking views from above.
