https://tinyurl.com/donatehandsandhoofs We know that many of our youth are struggling through the challenges of our current times and also know that being in nature and interacting with animals is a healing and heart-openi

ng experience. Because of our desire to share ranch life and the animals with kids, we have developed a day long, hands on experience at Treasured Heart Ranch where kids can be with the animals and explore the land. Our program will be offered once each month through the spring and fall and is funded by our generous donors!

Last Sunday, our donkey Abbey needed an emergency trip to the vet for an episode of choke - food stuck in her throat that wouldnt go down and equines cant throw up!

Although she gets soaked pellets, she is prone to choke so we always have to be on alert. When we noticed something was off, we loaded her up and took her to

She got a physical then was sedated so the vet could pass a tube and clear the blockage. The procedure was successful and, with medication, not painful for Abby despite the small nosebleed from the nasal tube. She took advantage of the sedation for a nap on the floor though, then recovered in Grandma's lap before the trip home.

We love Abby, and love Loomis for always taking the best care of our crazy crew, even late on a Sunday night! With the assortment of senior and high medical needs animals we have, having good quality regular vet care is essential!

Thankfully after completing her meds, we are happy to say she is getting back to herself, though she doesn't seem too pleased about having to eat only mash! We will continue to work closely with our vets to ensure she is healthy and feeling good.

Time to groom that gorgeous mane! Not only does it help keep our horses looking their best, but itโ€™s also a genuine bonding experience, getting to know their body language and needs. Through patience and nonverbal language, we get to find out which spots they love the most!

Horses communicate through subtle body languageโ€”using their noses, facial expressions, sounds, and even the smallest movements.

Take Waylon here, for example: what do you think heโ€™s trying to tell us? Have you ever had a horse "talk" to you with just a look? ๐Ÿ‘€

When you're around horses and all kinds of animals, the human mind can be energized and inspired to create all kinds of art. We love to see what you end up creating!

One step at a time, we guide others in learning how to communicate with horses: using gestures, motion, and mutual respect. Itโ€™s a two-way street: as we read their body language, theyโ€™re learning to read ours too.

Through our day camps, people are not just learning about horses... theyโ€™re experiencing connection, confidence, and healing :)

Sometimes, connection has nothing to do with Wi-Fi ๐Ÿ’•

We're excited to see more fun activities this weekend on June 14th! Will we see you there? We still have a few spots left, just send us a message if you think you can make it out!

Introducing Volunteer Fridays!

Join us on the ranch for some animal time with our community. We need folks of all skill sets to help us keep the property safe and accessible to all and to provide the best care to our program animals. Volunteer tasks could include mucking, cleaning waters, feeding, grooming, bathing, exercising on the ground, socializing new animals, painting, maintenance projects ... there's always a lot happening here!

Join us between 5pm and 9pm! After the work is done, we will gather for food, music and friendship.

Directly message us to reserve your volunteer spot!

Volunteers can be 16+ (or with permission via Rebecca Diddams / Travis Baker )

Our horses are all dressed in their Sunday best, all to look pretty because they deserve to! Itโ€™s all about taking care of yourself, where even our horses are able to indulge in a little self-care ๐Ÿ’

Do you have any fun self-care plans for yourself today?

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is also the hardest. Today, we helped Dusty leave her old, tired body and cross the rainbow bridge.

Dusty was 32-34 years old. A mustang, born in the wild, and with a survivor's spirit to the end. She has been loved by her owners over the years, friend to her pasture mates and teacher to countless kids. She has enjoyed the last several months at the new Hands and Hoofs location grazing the property, running in the arena, and relaxing with her friends.

Last week, she went off her food and showed other symptoms that something was up. Despite the tireless work of our volunteers, and multiple vet visits and tests, her body was tired and the best option was to let her go with dignity and surrounded by love. We will remember her, and thank her for all she gave each of us.

This is the responsibility we take on for each resident of Treasured Heart Ranch. We make a commitment that we will be their forever home, caring for them when their backs can't carry a saddle, their teeth go bad, their vision blurs. We make sure that we continually prioritize quality of their days over quantity, and when they are no longer having fun, we hold them as they leave us to the next chapter. If you would like to help us cover vet expenses for Dusty and all of our senior and rescue animals, please consider making a donation.

Run free, Dusty. You'll have some friends to meet you on the other side of the rainbow bridge. Say hi to them for us ๐Ÿ’“

Ever wondered how agile that wiggly horse muzzle is? Digger uses his whiskers and lips together to. . . eat all of his bucket around all of his pills. Honestly, it's so impressive I'm not even mad ๐Ÿคฃ
