🎣 Fishing Friday: Fall is here, and Charlotte Harbor is waking up.

As the water cools off in and around Charlotte Harbor, the fishing starts to pick up. Baitfish are active and abundant, the snook are moving inshore from their summer spawning spots, and redfish are starting to school up in large numbers as they move across our flats, oyster bars, and mangrove shorelines. In this picture you see dozens of tailing redfish as they point their heads down and root around for food.

A few fall tips before you head out:
✅ Go early. Cooler mornings and moving tides are often the best bite.
✅ Fish the mangrove edges and potholes on the flats.
✅ Move quietly. In shallow water, fish can feel you coming.
✅ Make sure you have a current Florida Fishing License.
✅ Handle releases gently and get fish back in the water fast.

🚣‍♂️Paddle Tip: Kayak won't turn where you want it to? You don't need more power. You need a wider stroke.
It's called a sweep stroke, and its the easiest way to turn a kayak or SUP.

To turn right, sweep on your left side:
✅ Put the blade fully in the water near your toes
✅ Hold the paddle lower and flatter than you would for a normal stroke
✅ Draw a big, wide arc out from the front of the boat/board and back toward the stern (the back of the kayak/SUP)
✅ Turn your upper body as you go, and keep your eyes on where the blade is

The wider the arc, the more the kayak/SUP turns. Small tips like these can make paddling more enjoyable and keep us safe on the water.

Our guides go over this before we leave the launch, so you're not figuring it out halfway through the first bend.

🌿 Wildlife Wednesday: Fall is moving in, and so are the birds.

As the mornings cool off around Lemon Bay and Charlotte Harbor, you'll start to see more birds along the shoreline. Every fall, Southwest Florida's shallow bays and mangrove shorelines become a stopover and winter home for birds heading south. Ospreys begin their nest building, resident bald eagles start their breeding season with dramatic aerial courtship routines, and later on this fall the American White Pelicans join us down south.

The more time you spend out here, the more you notice that the bay changes with the seasons. 🐦

🛶 Trail Tuesday is taking us into the mangroves.

As we move out of peak mosquito season, we're heading into one of our favorite times to explore hidden mangrove passages. There is a lot happening here that is easy to paddle past if you don't know where to look. 👀

Mangrove roots provide habitat for fish and other marine life, while the canopy creates another world above the water. That's one reason exploring with a guide can be so much fun. You're not just following the trail. You're actively learning what's living in and around it. 🌿

🌊 Still having some beautiful beach days at Don Pedro Island ☀️

This time of year, we're big fans of getting an earlier start. Morning rentals can mean cooler temperatures and more time to enjoy the water before the typical afternoon heat and changing weather moving in. ⛱️

We're open 8 AM to 5 PM daily, with the last rental return at 4:30 PM. Pack your water, sunscreen and sense of adventure.
We'll help with the rest. 🛶

☀️ Paddle Tip: Safety starts before you leave the launch. This time of year we have high heat, strong sun and changing afternoon storms. Proper prep ensures a comfortable, enjoyable, and safe day on the water.

Before launching:
✅ Bring plenty of water or pack a cooler
✅ Use sunscreen and sun protection
✅ Keep your phone accessible and protected
✅ Pay attention to changing conditions
✅ Listen to your SUP Englewood staff before heading out

When lightning is detected within 15 miles, we notify our renters so they can make safe decisions while they're on the water. ⛈

We want you to have a great paddle.
