This week marks an extraordinary time in Cunard heritage; 4th of July marks the actual day in 1840 when Cunard’s first ship, Britannia, left Liverpool at 8.5 knots and took 14 days to cross the Atlantic - first port of call, Halifax, Samuel Cunard’s home town. Now that journey can be done in 7 days,
Cunard today is the only cruise line that still bears the name of its original owner. In 2006, the descendants of Samuel Cunard joined the crew and staff of QM2 to unveil the Samuel Cunard statue in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It stands at the Cruise Terminal along the beautiful Halifax waterfront. It’s one of the many extraordinary sights guests can enjoy on board our 2021 Canada/New England voyages. Now that staying closer to home is a popular choice, we’re thrilled to offer 4 different ways to cruise the awe-inspiring shores of New England and Canada aboard Queen Mary 2, our flagship – and we’re still calling on Halifax after 180 years strong!
