As of May 19th, 408 Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle nests and 1 Green Sea Turtle nest have been confirmed on the Texas coast for the 2026 sea turtle nesting season!
This year is shaping up to be another record-breaking year and nesting for Kemp's Ridleys can continue to mid-July!
Through years of dedication and hard work and successful practices developed by Dr Donna Shaver and team at Padre Island National Seashore, along with multiple other partners, Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle numbers continue to increase on Texas beaches. Nests left on the beach are subject to predation, flooding, damage from vehicles and beach grading equipment, and many other threats! It's crucial that each nest is documented and located as well as gathering data from nesting females to better understand the species! Please report all nesting sea turtles, turtle tracks, or hatchlings to 1-866-TURTLE-5 as soon as possible!
