It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that Capt. Doc’s Fishing Charters will be closing for the near future. Through some difficult life changes, reduced bookings and this sh*tty economy, I can no longer keep the boat afloat so to say. I’ve robed from Peter to pay Paul and done all I can, but my dream has slipped away. Hopefully I can start back up in the spring when bookings usually pick back up. Thank you all for your likes, shares and support of my little business. It all meant a lot.

We had the pleasure of hosting the Eckel family from Rusk Saturday. Through POURING rain of a tropical low, we managed to find black drum, some big sand trout and a nice 19” speckled trout many undersized speckled trout, redfish and some stingray. We also saw tarpon chasing bait at Seawolf park! That was pretty cool! Long read: Talking with a friend tonight I was reminded of a recent charter I took out. As one of the new guys out here, I strive to give more than just fishing to my guests while we’re are out in the water. Our first spot this morning, where this picture was taken, was the furthest point on Seawolf Park off Pelican Island. While they were catching fish, I regaled the party of the history of Pelican Island and its past as a quarantine location for some 750k immigrants that came to America between the middle 1800’s and early 1900’s. Being that Galveston was one of the major ports in the growing United States, it was the first thing people saw when they experienced our great country. The father of this young man, after hearing my story, said “that’s amazing! Our family entered America through Galveston!” And now, some 170 or so years later, their ancestors were right back where it first started. Right off Pelican Island, enjoying what makes America great, Freedom. I’m so thankful I get to do this job.

We had such an amazing time today hosting the Jones family, some from Arlington, Texas and also from right here in good ‘Ol Crystal Beach! They caught a wide variety of fish from speckled trout to pompano and boxed two 19” trout, an 18” pompano and a 17” flounder. A 30min fight on the big lines brought up a MONSTA from the deep in a HUGE stingray!! It got released to fight again. They also caught a nice spinner shark! If you want to come out with us, give us a shout and let’s get you booked up and hooked up!!

We were blessed to host the Peery family from Nacogdoches today. Fishing was tough, but they stuck it out and came home with a nice box of fish. From a MONSTER stingray to a big ugly, they caught trout, sheepshead, shark, trout, black drum and redfish. Rods were broken and memories made! Give us a shout so we can get you get you booked up and hooked up!
