Sometimes a fishing captain doesn’t go fishing! 🤷‍♂️🚤

Today’s charter was a little different from our usual trips. Capt. Doc’s was contacted by a company needing a licensed captain to transport their crew to Goat Island for a site inspection.

We were glad to help get them there and back, remaining on standby while they worked. We also provided a site-specific hazard analysis and medical evacuation plan ahead of the trip—putting my background as an ER nurse and paramedic to work before we ever left the dock.

After 37 years in emergency services, being prepared and looking out for people are still at the heart of what I do.

Grateful for the opportunity to put both sides of my experience to work. No fishing rods today, but still a good day to be Capt. Doc! ⚓

🌊 Calm seas don’t make a good captain… and today, the wind made sure we got some practice! 🤣🎣

We were blessed to have the Reyna family from Waco aboard today! Right off the bat, that dang wind kept us pinned down to a few spots in the Intracoastal, but we made the most of it—finding plenty of little fish and a couple of big ones, too!

Then we decided to “send it” and head out to the jetties. We made it out just fine, but apparently the fish hadn’t gotten the memo. The ride back, though? WET AND WILD! 💦😂 The kids LOVED getting splashed. The parents… well, the jury’s still out on that one! 🤣

One thing’s for sure: you couldn’t wipe the smiles off those kids’ faces if you tried! That’s what makes a day like this worth it.

Thank y’all again, Reyna family, for spending your day with Capt. Doc’s! I hope you enjoyed the adventure as much as I enjoyed having you aboard. ❤️🎣

🔥 Our First Captain’s Table Experience! 🔥

What an incredible ending to two days of fishing with the Patschke family!

After two days of catching fish left and right, we gathered at their beach house for a private Captain’s Table celebration featuring the fish they caught during their Capt. Doc’s adventure.

With some good tunes setting the mood, the evening’s menu included:

🎣 Grilled lemon-pepper redfish
🎣 Blackened shark
🎣 Cajun-fried speckled trout
🔥 Pepper jack boudin balls
🔥 Chicken, sausage and pork jambalaya
🔥 Chicken and sausage gumbo
🔥 Warm French bread
🔥 Blackberry cobbler with Blue Bell ice cream

We also shared Coastal Tartar, Bayou Ranch, Cajun Remoulade and, of course, Capt. Doc’s famous Hollaback Sauce!

It wasn’t an easy evening behind the scenes, but our team adapted, overcame and made it happen. Seeing the Patschke family gathered around the table enjoying the fish they had caught made every bit of work worthwhile.

Thank you to the Patschke family for trusting us with two unforgettable days on the water and allowing us to share this special evening with you. And a huge thank-you to my team—this was truly a labor of love!

Day two with Wes, Jonathan, Ty and Candyce brought the MONSTAS and TROPHY fish! They hooked so many big fish that we completely ran out of shrimp!

🦈 NO SHARK WAS SAFE! 🦈

Wes, Ty, and Jonathan came down from East Texas to celebrate Wes’ 40th birthday with a two-day fishing trip—and Day One delivered! We had three sharks in the boat by 8:30 this morning. Shark Central! 🎣

Sunday afternoon, we’ll bring the Captain’s Table experience to them and cook up their fresh catch while they kick back and enjoy some tunes.

Great fishing, great company, and one heck of a birthday weekend on the Bolivar Peninsula!

I want to apologize to everyone whose fishing trips I had to cancel this weekend.

Friday, I ended up in the ER with significant pain in my neck, shoulder, and arm and was diagnosed with a pinched nerve in my neck. I’ve been on pain medication and steroids ever since, trying to get back on my feet.

I woke up this morning feeling a little better and really hoped I could get back on the water, but I’m still not 100%. At Capt. Doc’s, I’ve always had one simple rule when it comes to safety:

If I wouldn’t take my own family out on the water, I won’t take yours.

As much as I hate canceling a trip and disappointing people who have been looking forward to their day on the water, I won’t compromise on that.

A huge THANK YOU to the fellow captains who stepped up, helped me out, and were able to save some of my clients’ trips. That kind of support means more to me than you know.

To everyone affected this weekend, I deeply apologize. I take every booking personally, and I genuinely hate letting anyone down. Thank you for the understanding, patience, prayers, and well wishes.

I’m going to focus on getting healthy and getting back behind the wheel of the boat as soon as I safely can.
