Amazing how many great inventions come from the ordained!

In 1897, a Polish priest named Casimir Zeglen invented the first flexible bulletproof vest. To prove it worked, he stood in front of a firing squad and let them shoot him.

Zeglen, a Catholic priest and inventor, was driven by the assassination of Chicago Mayor Carter Harrison Sr. He developed a vest woven from multiple layers of silk, a material known for its high tensile strength.

His invention was revolutionary, offering protection against the black powder cartridges common at the time. Zeglen often demonstrated its effectiveness by wearing the vest himself during live firing tests.

This incredible act of faith and ingenuity laid the groundwork for modern body armor, saving countless lives over the decades. It's a testament to Polish innovation and courage.
