The difference between being a tourist and a traveler can be subtle or not. Travelers want to “see it all” and take in even the uncomfortable parts of local history and identity. We leaned so much in Belfast and left with a better understanding of how the sectarian violence known as The Troubles continue to influence people today. Our local guide was essential in making it all come alive for us.

Dublin! Such a special city. The people are so real and so lovely and for history nerds like me, visiting at Easter is extra special because the city does so much to mark the anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising.

Have you ever been to a place that feels like you’ve been magically transported to another world? That’s how I felt at Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland. It’s gorgeous and has so much lore. According to Irish folklore, the Giant’s Causeway was built by the giant Finn McCool (Fionn mac Cumhaill) as a pathway to Scotland to fight his rival, the giant Benandonner. When Finn saw how enormous his opponent was, he fled, and his clever wife disguised him as a baby. Seeing the “baby,” Benandonner panicked at the thought of the father’s size and ran back to Scotland, destroying the causeway behind him.
