Redfish vs red snapper: what’s the difference between the two?

Are they both fish? ✅

Do they both live in saltwater? ✅

Both share the same color, red? ✅

Are they both delicious? HELL YES!

While these fish share much of the same coastal habitat, redfish and red snapper are both very distinct fish. When fishing for them, location, angling techniques and bait are completely different.

Redfish prefer shallows, oftentimes in marshes, mangroves, and other brackish estuary-like bodies of water.

Red snapper, on the other hand, live in much deeper water, sticking to the lower levels of the water column as the species gets progressively bigger. They inhabit ledges, ridges, old shipwrecks, and artificial reefs. The largest of the snapper will usually occupy the deepest of water.

Redfish and red snapper are both unique game fish. They are fun to catch- quite the fight at the end of a rod and most importantly, they are both delicious!
