🎉 Big news for the Spanish Moss Trail! 🎉

We’re excited to celebrate two major milestones on the Spanish Moss Trail on Thursday, February 12 at 11:00am at the iconic Depot Building at the Depot Trailhead!

🚶‍♀️ The Downtown Beaufort Connector is officially opening, creating a seamless link between the Spanish Moss Trail and historic Bay Street, making it easier than ever for trail users and downtown visitors to move between these beloved destinations.

🌿 We’re also proud to announce that the Spanish Moss Trail is now a nationally designated Kids in Parks TRACK Trail! This new family-friendly feature includes a kiosk with children’s activity brochures and a one-mile trail experience stretching toward Port Royal, designed to get kids outdoors and exploring.

Families can also enjoy the StoryWalk, a new mini children’s library, and begin their adventure toward the Mather Trestle fishing pier, all starting right at the Depot Trailhead.

Thank you to the Friends of the Spanish Moss Trail, Beaufort County, and the City of Beaufort Staff for making these exciting improvements possible!

Thank you Dean Harrigal and Ernie Wiggers from Folk Land Management for providing the Port Royal Cypress Wetlands with a 2025 Wading Bird Nesting Survey.

This year’s nesting season was a big success!
Three surveys recorded 803 nests from 11 species…an 85% increase since 2022. White ibis (32%) and snowy egrets (23%) led the way, with wood stork nests jumping from just 2 in 2022 to 77 in 2025!

The wetlands are now close to full capacity, with birds using both island and shoreline habitats.

Continued habitat care will be key to keeping this thriving rookery healthy for years to come. Nesting will continue into early September!

StreetMusic is back in Port Royal!!

Join us as we kick off the Fall 2025 season with the legendary Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues. Known for his soulful sound and deep roots in blues history, Mac Arnold has shared the stage with icons like Muddy Waters and James Brown—and now he’s bringing his signature energy to Paris Avenue.

The concert takes place Saturday, August 9 at 6 PM on Paris Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets. Bring a chair, invite your friends, and enjoy a free night of live music in the heart of Port Royal.
