First sign of the day on the Waterfalls and W**e tour. Moss on everything, and Latourell just up the road.

Vines on one side, a fire table in the middle, and nowhere else to be. Private tastings run all year, and the quiet season has its own charm.

You know you have arrived somewhere good when the doors look like this. Marchesi in Hood River, a little corner of Italy in the Gorge.

This is the face of a good day out. Two of our guides, Camille and Claudia, at Latourell Falls, somewhere between the hike and the first glass of the afternoon.

Halfway through their color change, which means harvest is not far off. This is the part of the season the growers watch closest.

Another Gorge stop where everyone goes quiet for a minute. Cold, clear water straight off the cliff and a little beach to stand on while you take it in.

Umbrellas up, geraniums out, vines along the fence. The patio at Marchesi is where an afternoon quietly disappears.

Latourell Falls drops straight off the basalt in one clean ribbon, and that bright yellow lichen on the rock is worth the walk on its own.

Marchesi Vineyards, a little touch of Italy in Hood River. A glass of red, a plate of salumi and cheese, and the vines right there beside you.
