🔔🇺🇸 Let Freedom Ring in Scioto County! 🇺🇸🔔

As we celebrate America250, our community has a special opportunity to honor the founding principles that have shaped our nation for 250 years.

Join the Joseph Spencer Chapter, NSDAR on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. on the Scioto County Courthouse steps for Bells Across America, a special commemoration of Constitution Week (September 17–23).

At 4 p.m., bells throughout Scioto County — and communities across the nation — will ring simultaneously for 60 seconds, echoing a tradition that dates back to the earliest days of our country. In 1787, bells called citizens together to hear the first public reading of the newly adopted U.S. Constitution.

Following the ringing of the bells, attendees will join together to recite the Preamble to the Constitution, followed by the reading of proclamations.

🔔 Everyone is invited to attend and participate — bring your own bell and ring along!

Churches throughout Scioto County are also encouraged to join this nationwide commemoration by ringing their bells continuously for 60 seconds at 4 p.m. Churches wishing to participate are asked to register by calling 740-353-7647.

This September, as part of the America250 and America250Ohio celebrations, let’s come together as a community to remember our nation’s beginnings, celebrate the Constitution, and honor the ideals that continue to unite us.

Twenty-five years later, many of us can still vividly remember where we were on September 11, 2001—the shock of the news, the sudden quiet, and the way communities across the country came together in the face of unimaginable loss.

At the Portsmouth-Scioto County CVB, we know that a destination is more than its landmarks, attractions, and places to gather. It is the people who call it home, the strength we find in one another, and the compassion we share during times of sorrow and uncertainty.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the innocent lives lost on September 11, the families and loved ones who continue to carry that loss, and the courageous first responders who demonstrated extraordinary bravery and selflessness.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
