Red Rock Canyon, which spans more than 195,000 acres, is Nevada’s first National Conservation Area and serves as a mecca which exemplifies the unique qualities of the Mojave Desert. Although the recreation area is just 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip – close enough that peak tops are visible from the Las Vegas Valley – it’s worlds away in terms of atmosphere. Taking in the startling contrast of red sandstone layered through gray limestone in the sheer cliff faces (some of which reach a staggering 1,800 feet) is an incredible natural wonder that won’t soon be forgotten. This sandstone is part of the same geologic formation, known as the Navajo Formation, that is also found throughout the southwest United States.

The Tom Kelly Bottle House is one of the few remaining examples of bottle house architecture in the United States.
In Nevada, where wood is scarce and expensive, miners often built their houses with whatever was cheap and readily available. In many cases, glass bottles fit the bill. The bottles would be used like bricks and mortared in with adobe. Bottle houses are great in hot climates because they are cool in the summer, hold heat in the winter, and allow for natural light. This bottle house was built in 1906 by Tom Kelly, an Australian-born stonemason turned gold miner, using over 50,000 bottles. Kelly paid local children 10 cents for a wheelbarrow full of bottles – about $3 in 2021.

This Wilderness Lodge is a first for us. During this Alsaksa Cruisetour our group stayed at the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge. We are hearing from our group that this lodge is the best one compared to the other Princess Wilderness Lodges.

They had views of Kenai River, Cecil Rhode Mountain and lush evergreen forests in Cooper Landing, Alaska.

Warren and Debby shared some of their photos with us.

Our next Alaska cruisetour will not include the Kenai Wilderness Lodge but we will get to see some spectacular views, stay at some beautiful lodges, encounter wildlife and experience what Holland America has to offer.

One of our Travel Advisor's favorite things to do is ride the bus to the airport to pick up our passengers when they get home from a trip. This group had an adventurous couple of days with flights, delays and weather... they are happy to be home and she was happy to be the one to greet them. When you travel with us you become family.

Happy to have this group home safely from their Mackinac and Niagara Falls Tour.

Riding down with an empty bus, heading home with a full bus. We love our customers!

While at the Niagara Falls the group enjoyed views of the Falls during the day from above, from the Observation Tower, and from below on the Maid of the Mist boat tour. Seeing the Falls at night is an experience all on its own. The group finished the night with a fireworks show from the Hyatt Place rooftop.

Last Monday the Master's Touch group spent the day on Mackinac Island. They took a horse-drawn carriage ride, had lunch at the Grand Hotel, saw the The Mackinac Bridge that connects the Upper and Lower peninsulas of Michigan and visited the Little Stone Church. The church is a charming structure built in 1904 using local, glacial-erratic fieldstones gathered right from the island.
