Some of the best Prescott hikes are the ones that make you stop every few minutes just to look around.

Constellation Trails is packed with massive granite boulders, winding desert paths, wide-open views, and those classic Prescott landscapes that somehow feel rugged and peaceful at the same time. It’s a great spot for hiking, trail running, exploring with your dog, or just getting outside for a couple hours without going too far from town.

And yes… the balanced rocks really are that impressive in person. 🥾

Welcome to our Summer in Flagstaff series 🌲☀️

Over the next couple months, we’re sharing some of our favorite places to eat, shop, explore, and slow down around Flagstaff during the summer season.

First up: Historic Downtown Flagstaff & Route 66.

This part of town is really the heart of the city in summer — local shops, patios, live music, historic buildings, and that classic Route 66 energy that makes Flagstaff feel different from anywhere else in Arizona. It’s one of the best places to park the car, walk around for a few hours, and just see where the day takes you.

Keep an eye out for our next Summer in Flagstaff stop later this week 👀

The Little Painted Desert looks like something from another planet… but it’s tucked right here in Northern Arizona.

With layers of red, purple, gray, and gold stretching across the landscape, this hidden overlook near Winslow is one of those places that feels almost unreal in person. Quiet, wide open, and especially beautiful around sunrise or sunset.

One of the best parts of exploring Northern Arizona is meeting the people behind the places.

During a visit to Verde Brewing Company in Camp Verde, Northern AZ Social got a behind-the-scenes tour where founder and brewer Alex Goetting shared the story behind the brewery and what goes into crafting their beers right in the heart of the Verde Valley. From the brewing process to the local inspiration behind the flavors, it’s the kind of place that feels genuinely rooted in the community.

If you’re passing through Camp Verde, this is a great stop for craft beer, food, and a laid-back atmosphere. Bonus: the patio is dog friendly too. 🍻

Canyon de Chelly feels different than anywhere else in Arizona.

Located within the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona, the canyon has been home to people for thousands of years and still has families living and farming within the canyon today. Between the sandstone cliffs, ancient ruins, and scenic overlooks, it’s one of those places that stays with you long after the trip home.

If you visit, take your time with it. The history here runs deep.

Wupatki is worth more than a quick photo stop.

Just north of Flagstaff, Wupatki National Monument protects ancestral Puebloan sites that are more than 800 years old. Several ruins are open to visitors, and the park is set up with short walks and a scenic drive, so it’s an easy add-on if you’re already visiting Sunset Crater or exploring the Flagstaff area.

Tip: don’t rush it. The structures are impressive, but the real value is slowing down enough to imagine what it took to live here.

One thing Prescott does really well is giving people a reason to slow down and spend the day downtown.

Between the art fairs around the courthouse square, live music, local events, craft vendors, and small shops nearby, there’s almost always something happening once the weather warms up. It’s the kind of place where you show up for an hour and somehow stay all afternoon.

Tonto Natural Bridge feels like one of those places you have to see in person to fully understand how massive it really is.

Between the hiking trails, cave-like tunnels, waterfalls, and flowing creek below, it’s an easy day trip that feels completely different from most of Arizona.

Definitely worth the drive if you haven’t been yet.

One of the best parts about Flagstaff in the warmer months is how much there is to do outside.

Within a short drive you can spend the day hiking through pine forests, kayaking at Lake Mary, exploring lava tubes, driving scenic mountain roads, or cooling off at higher elevations while most of Arizona is already hitting triple digits.

Flagstaff really earns its reputation as Arizona’s mountain town. 🌲
