Even on our days off, we’re still flying grandparents and grandkids… this time our own! 🤣

Today was a pretty special one for the Suncoast Biplanes family as our granddaughter Norah (7) took her very first flight in Gracie — with Nan right beside her. ❤️

We spend a lot of time helping other families make memories in our beautiful biplane, so it was cool to make one of our own today.

One very happy little granddaughter getting her first taste of open-cockpit flying!

Something tells us it might not be her last… ✈️

Well…Tampa just got beaten. By quite a distance. 🇩🇪✈️

We mentioned recently that people are traveling from Tampa, Naples, Fort Lauderdale and beyond to come fly with Gracie.

Yesterday, we raised the bar a little.

GERMANY!

Hans and Mattias found Suncoast Biplanes online while they were still back home in Germany, booked their flight through GetYourGuide, and made a ride in Gracie part of their Florida adventure.

How cool is that?

There’s something pretty special about knowing that someone can be sitting thousands of miles away, planning their trip to Florida, stumble across a picture of Gracie and think:

“Yep. We HAVE to do that.”

And yesterday, they did.

They climbed aboard Gracie and experienced Southwest Florida the way we think it looks best — from an open cockpit, with the wind in their faces and nothing between them and the view.

Thanks for coming such a long way to fly with us, guys. We loved having you aboard!

Two Beach Tours. Four happy passengers. And two very different reasons to fly. ✈️🌴

Yesterday, Gracie was flying out of Venice, and we loved the stories behind our passengers.

First up: two brothers whose grandmother gave them a biplane flight for Christmas. Now that’s a Christmas present they’ll remember!

Then we welcomed a couple whose flight was a “Welcome to Your New Home” gift from their realtor. Forget the fruit basket — how about seeing your new home and neighborhood from the open cockpit of a vintage biplane? 😎

And it got us thinking about just how far people are traveling to fly with Gracie.

We’ve welcomed passengers from Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Naples and beyond — people making the trip to Southwest Florida for an experience that’s a little different from the everyday.

Birthdays. Anniversaries. Christmas presents. New homes. Bucket lists. Or simply “I’ve always wanted to do this.”

Everyone has a different reason for climbing aboard.

But when Joy opens the door at the end of their flight, they always climb out with the same big grin.

All in a day’s work for Gracie.

Gracie’s been a busy bee again this week! 🐝✈️

Three Harbor Tours, a Beach Tour, plus a little refresher and currency training for one of our pilots. She’s certainly been earning her keep!

And yes…it’s August in Florida. ⛈️☀️🌧️

Storms? Rain? Morning AND afternoon downpours? No problem. We keep a close eye on the weather and fit our flights into the good windows whenever they appear.

And when they do…there really is no better place to be than in Gracie’s open cockpit, with the Florida coastline spread out below you.

Gareth talks about the biggest challenge in the business (maintenance), how FAA oversight and new Safety Management System (SMS) requirements are raising the bar for professionalism and safety, and a powerful personal accomplishment: flying a 1942 Stearman solo across the U.S. while giving scenic rides to trauma survivors.

We often hear from people who would love to experience an open-cockpit biplane flight but don’t have a friend or family member who’s ready to climb aboard with them.

So we’re trying something new.

We’re creating a Suncoast Biplanes Shared Flight List. If you’re happy to share your flight with another solo adventurer, we’ll keep your details on file and, when we find someone looking for the same experience, we’ll put you in touch so you can arrange a flight together and split the cost.

Who knows… you might even make a new friend before takeoff.

Whether you’re a local, visiting the area, celebrating something special, or simply ticking a biplane ride off your bucket list, we’d love to help make it happen.

How cool is this?!

Those ghostly white spirals streaming off Gracie’s propeller aren’t smoke… they’re propeller tip vortices.

They’re usually invisible, but on this humid Florida morning the conditions were just right for them to appear, giving us a rare glimpse of the air swirling off the propeller as it pulls us through the sky.

It’s one of those fascinating little aviation moments that most people never get to see.
