Sometimes addiction makes absolutely no sense from the outside looking in.

Why would somebody keep drinking when it’s destroying everything? Why risk your family, your freedom, your life?

There are answers to those questions.

I lived them.

And according to this reader, CONVICT helped them understand.

“A must read!” ★★★★★

We’re headed out on the road!

In just a few days, Peace Mountain will be in our rearview mirror and another adventure will be waiting through the windshield.

And this time, we’re hoping some of those roads lead us straight to YOU.

This is more than a road trip. It’s a book-signing journey, and one of the things Breezie and I are looking forward to most is finally meeting some of the people who have been following our adventures, reading my stories, and supporting us from all across the country.

If our paths cross and you have one of my books, bring it along. I would be honored to sign it, shake your hand, and get a picture together.

We’ll be posting our travel routes, upcoming stops, and adventures on our website so you can see where these wandering feet are taking us next.

Maybe somewhere down that road, your path and ours will meet.

Follow the journey at:

Please meet a few of our followers…

Every picture you see here has a story behind it.

A handshake that turned into a hug. A stranger who didn’t stay a stranger very long. A few minutes together that became a friendship we still carry with us.

Over the years, Breezie and I have crossed paths with thousands and thousands of people. At our RV park in Quartzsite. On our tours. Along lonely desert roads, in campgrounds, little towns, mountain country, and places we never expected to find ourselves.

And somewhere along the way, something beautiful happened. We realized the places were never really the greatest part of the journey. The people were.

These pictures are only a tiny handful of the beautiful lives that have crossed ours. Unfortunately, I lost thousands of pictures when I lost my phone down the Grand Canyon. Some came into our lives for five minutes. Some for longer. Most became lifelong friends. But every single meeting left something behind.

That’s the thing about this life. We spend so much time thinking we’re traveling toward a destination, when maybe we’re really traveling toward one another.

Tomorrow morning, Breezie and I pull away from Peace Mountain and begin another chapter.

Another road.

Another adventure.

And hopefully, a whole lot more faces to add to pictures like these. We are planning a book signing tour!

We already have our first person waiting to meet us along the way, and that makes this journey feel pretty special before the wheels have even started turning.

We’ll be posting our route and travel updates on our website as we go, and we’ve already posted the first leg of our journey there. So if you’d like to know where we’re headed next, follow along at

FiniusTheSkinniest.com.

If we’re coming through your part of the country and you’ve followed our adventures, read one of my books, or simply feel like our paths are supposed to cross, we’d love the opportunity to meet you.

Bring your book if you’d like it signed. Bring your camera. Bring your story.

Or just bring yourself.

Because I believe with everything in me that we don’t simply pass through this world.

We leave pieces of ourselves in the lives we touch, and we carry pieces of others with us.

And sadly, not every beautiful face in these pictures is still here with us today. Some of these wonderful people didn’t get to see tonight’s sunset.

That makes these pictures even more precious.

It reminds me that none of us knows how many sunsets we have left. So while we’re here, love people. Hug them. Take the picture. Make the phone call. Say the words you’ve been meaning to say. Don’t wait for someday to let somebody know they mattered.

Because a life doesn’t have to last forever to leave something behind that does.

Maybe that’s why, after all these years and all these miles, Breezie and I still get excited about the next road.

We don’t know exactly who is waiting somewhere up ahead.

But we know somebody is.

And nothing is a coincidence.

Tomorrow morning, the wheels start turning.

We’ll carry the ones we’ve lost with us, treasure the ones who are still here, and keep our hearts open for the beautiful lives we haven’t met yet.

Let’s see whose life crosses ours next.

GOODNIGHT, EVERYBODY… FROM SILVER.

Apparently, somebody has figured out that the traveling pants are coming out.

In just a couple more days, Breezie, Silver and I will be rolling off this mountain and pointing the old motorhome toward another adventure. New roads, new places, new people to meet, books to sign, and memories waiting somewhere down the road that we don’t even know about yet.

But tonight, none of that matters.

Tonight is for being thankful. Thankful for a warm place to lay our heads, for the people we love, for another day we were given, and hopeful for the one waiting on the other side of sunrise.

So wherever you are tonight, Silver, Breezie and I hope you lay your worries down for a little while. Tomorrow will get here soon enough. Rest your heart. Be thankful for what was good today, let go of what wasn’t, and trust that there is still something beautiful ahead of you.

God willing, we’ll all wake up tomorrow with another blank page to write on.

Goodnight, friends. Sleep well, dream big, and never stop believing there are still beautiful roads ahead.

And if you’d like to travel along with Silver, Breezie and me as this next adventure begins, be sure to sign up and follow along at…

See you down the road.

1,500 BOOKS. She says she’s read around 1,500 books in her lifetime…and then she wrote THIS about ours.

Breezie and I sat here reading Jill’s review of CONVICT, and there was one part that stopped me cold. She said that out of all those books, none had ever gotten her so thoroughly into the head of an alcoholic. But what hit me even harder was what came next. She said this book changed her. She now looks at alcoholics she knows, and those she has known, differently, with more compassion, more empathy and less judgment.

Man, that means something to me.

When I wrote CONVICT, I opened doors to parts of my life that weren’t pretty. I wrote about alcoholism, prison, love, failure, consequences, and what it took to finally find a way out. I didn’t clean it up to make myself look better. I wanted people to feel what that life was actually like from the inside, but I also wanted them to see that no human being is beyond hope.

And now these reviews keep coming in. People are telling us they couldn’t put it down. Others tell us they’re purposely reading it slowly because they don’t want it to end. Some have told us it helped them understand somebody they love. And now Jill tells us it actually changed the amount of compassion she has for people battling alcoholism.

I don’t know how an author could ask for much more than that.

CONVICT continues to climb, and Breezie and I are incredibly grateful to every single person who has bought it, read it, recommended it, or taken the time to leave a review. You folks are the reason this story is traveling farther than we ever imagined it would.

If you’ve finished your copy, please consider leaving an honest review. Reviews help other readers find the book, but more importantly, they tell us where this story landed in your heart. And if you have a picture with your copy, send it to us. We absolutely LOVE seeing where these books end up and the people holding them.

Thank you, Jill. And thank you to every one of you who has given this story a chance.

Thirty-one years ago, I was just trying to find a way out.

I never dreamed that someday the story of finding it might help somebody else see another human being with a little more compassion.

With the price of fuel being the highest ever, I decided it was time to try an alternative form of transportation…

I think I might be onto something here. It seems to be catching on too, because I’ve been seeing people traveling by donkey everywhere lately. There’s even a new donkey dealer right down near the Arizona-Utah border. I figured I’d better get one before everybody catches on and the prices go through the roof.

So far, I really like it. The fuel mileage is unbelievable, four-wheel drive comes standard, and I haven’t seen a check-engine light yet. I’m not exactly sure what the towing capacity is, but judging by the look on his face, I don’t think he wants to discuss it.

There are definitely some advantages over the Jeep. I can pet this one, talk to it, and it actually acts like it knows I’m there. Of course, the Jeep has never tried to eat my shirt or drooled on me either, so I guess they both have their strong points.

Top speed isn’t great, there’s nowhere to plug in my phone, and Breezie has already informed me that this thing is NOT sleeping in the RV. But other than that, I think we’ve found ourselves a winner.

Life doesn’t always have to be so darn serious. Sometimes you just have to slow down, laugh at yourself, enjoy the ride, and be grateful for another day to do it.

I’m keeping the Jeep though.

This thing gets terrible mileage on pavement.
