Vermont's Little Grand Canyon, Now With Both Lanes

Good news for anyone road-tripping toward foliage season, leaf-peeping early, or just passing through on the way to Killington: the Quechee Gorge Bridge has reopened with both lanes and both sidewalks, wrapping up a two-year-and-change rehab by the Vermont Agency of Transportation . Finishing touches continue through the week, but the view is fully back in business!

Stop at the Gorge, walk the bridge, grab lunch nearby, and take in one of Vermont's most photographed spots the way it was meant to be seen: without the dulcet tones of jackhammers as background music. (But seriously, we're grateful for all the hard work. It's a beautiful bridge.)

Health Advisory: Elevated Bacteria Levels in the Ottauquechee River

The Town of Hartford has received water quality test results indicating elevated bacteria levels in the discharge from the Quechee Wastewater Treatment Plant into the Ottauquechee River.

Testing measured 770 colony-forming units (CFU), exceeding the Vermont Department of Health's recreational water guidance of 235 CFU. These elevated bacteria levels may affect portions of the Ottauquechee River and Dewey's Pond.

Out of an abundance of caution, residents and visitors should avoid swimming, wading, boating, fishing, or drinking water from the affected areas until further notice. Exposure to elevated bacteria levels may pose a risk to public health.

Signage will be posted in the affected areas until further notice.
