FAASTeam May Safety Seminar

How Do You Determine If an Aircraft Is Ready to Return to Service after Maintenance.

Avoiding CFIT accidents

This two hour event is a two part seminar, provided by the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) from the Albany Flight Standards District Office (FSDO). The seminar will cover information of interest to all pilots and student pilots.

The first first part of this seminar presents The Topic of The Month, "What is an Approval for Return to Service." We’ll discuss the maintenance record requirements and suggested pre flight procedures done by pilots prior to flying an aircraft after maintenance has been performed.

The second part of this seminar will discuss Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) accidents. We will take a deep dive into the statistics behind these accidents, why they happen and how to best prevent them.

Weekend Private Pilot Ground School - Saturday & Sunday, June 21 & 22, 2025
9 am - 4 pm each day
We will cover all the topics required to pass your FAA Knowledge Test, plus real world experiences.

Topics include:
Saturday
Aerodynamics and Stability; Airplane instruments and systems; Meteorology; Weather reports, forecasts and charts. FARs.

Sunday
Aircraft performance and weight and balance; Flight Environment, Human Factors including SPRM, Cross Country Flight Planning and Navigation

Students should bring a plotter, E6B flight computer and if possible a NY Sectional Chart for the cross country flight planning section.

FAASTeam Seminar - The Stabilized Approach and Go Arounds.

During this months Seminar, we will discuss “The Stabilized Approach”.

The stabilized approach is the foundation of a successful landing. Nearly 20 percent of fatal accidents occur during the approach phase of flight. We will discuss the benefits of a stabilized approach and when a go around is appropriate.

We were happy to host the 19 members of the GRIT Club from Queensbury School along with their advisor and teacher Samantha at the airport today.

GRIT (Girls Represented In Trades) is a hands-on club that teaches girls wood cutting, construction, electrical work, plumbing, changing tires and more.

We discussed careers in aviation including becoming commercial pilots, maintenance technicians, airport operators and air traffic controllers.
