This month’s artist feature spotlights Mario Sauceda, whose vibrant landscapes channel the spirit of the great Impressionists. Working primarily in oils, Mario builds his surfaces with heavy impasto applications of paint, gesso, and modeling paste, creating textured scenes that capture the movement and energy of the landscapes that inspire him.

Born in Denver and a part-time resident of the Questa area, Mario began studying art at age four under the guidance of his artist mother. Influenced early on by Piet Mondrian and Vincent van Gogh, he has spent years exploring the balance between abstraction and expressive color. His work has been exhibited at the Denver Art Museum and in galleries across New Mexico and beyond. After years devoted to both painting and other pursuits, Mario has returned to his practice with renewed intensity, bringing fresh momentum to a lifelong artistic journey.
