Throwback Thursday,

Quincy, California, wasn’t always called that! Back in the 1850s, during the height of the Gold Rush, the area was known as American Ranch, a stopover spot for miners and travelers headed into the Sierra Nevada. When the town needed an official name, one of the early settlers, James H. Bradley, suggested “Quincy” after his hometown of Quincy, Illinois.

James Bradley was a prominent figure in the area and played a key role in establishing the town. He even donated land for what would become the Plumas County Courthouse, helping Quincy become the county seat in 1854.

Meet the product maker,

Russ Peter is a skilled woodworker known for transforming salvaged wood from the Dixie Fire into meaningful, handcrafted pieces. Born and raised in Greenville, Russ spent much of his life working in construction, building homes and relationships throughout his tight-knit mountain community. After the devastation of the Dixie Fire, Russ found purpose in reclaiming what was left—using his hands to preserve the history and spirit of the place he loves. A dedicated family man, Russ shares his life with his wife, Debbie. When he's not in the shop, you’ll likely find him working on one of his classic cars—he takes great pride in restoring old vehicles and bringing them back to life.
