I cannot wait to be sailing around stunning crystal clear waters of these islands off the coast of mainland Italy and France!

Ironically I've just landed in Lisbon and it made me think about just how many retreats I've led in Europe (this will be #10)!

When people ask me if I have a favorite retreat, my answer is always - it's either "they are all my favorite, that's why I keep going back," or "this one" - meaning whatever one I'm on at the moment!

But if you ask me which of our retreats has the most incredible food - I'm going to tell, hands down - it's our Culinary + Culture Retreat in Colombia. 🇨🇴 From arepas and tropical fruit at breakfast to incredible seafood dinners with our local private chef - there are meals from this year's retreat I'm still thinking of 6 months later!

We have two rooms left for this retreat March 5 - 10, 2026! From just $3410 per person! It's an easy, short and inexpensive flight from the US to Cartagena, Colombia and a hell of a way to be transported to a foodie paradise.

What an incredible way this community has shown up the last 72 hours!!

We've raised $1,605 from 35 donors for education in Cambodia!

- $1,000 will go to our friend and guide Young's daughter Socheata ($800 for annual school tuition and $200 for other daily expenses like uniforms, food, books, etc)
- $605 will be donated to - an NGO school and community center supporting families living at or below the poverty line in 3 rural villages through education, food and health care services.

Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you who jumped at the chance to help young people and make this world a better place.

Grace House is a place we've supported for a few years now (through money and supplies donated from retreat profits in the past and now this too)! The retreat guests last year also got a chance to visit to deliver the donations and teach the students some fun kids' yoga!

This volcanic crater lake 6,000 feet above sea level feels other-worldly! The color of the lake changes constantly and rapidly with the angle of the sun, cloud cover and season.

It's right on the border between two of Northern Japan's Prefectures - Yamagata and Miyagi!

It was our final test run of a possible retreat excursion... And it was a home run. What a stunning spot for a quick hike and drop dead gorgeous views - and only 35 minutes from one of our favorite hotels we've stayed on this trip! It was also 15° cooler than any weather we've had this trip! ❤️🙌🏼

Our sweet cab driver jumped in as our impromptu tour guide which we weren't expecting (Google translate for the win) and also stopped us off at a waterfall on the way back. And then dropped us off for lunch in a small town near our hotel (and we thought he told the restaurant to call us a cab), but instead he must have told them to call him when we were finishing up, because right before we got up to leave, he reappeared! ⛩️🇯🇵🍜

I love travel magic like that. ✨ On the retreat, we'll have private transfers and in many instances, local guides, but figuring it out on the fly is sometimes fun too -> at least when it's just us!!

Is this the Japan you've been looking for? For me the answer is a resounding yes. 🇯🇵❤️⛩️

- being the only western tourists we see for days
- the absolute quiet of temples (of course) but also the serenity of our ryokans (spa hotels)
- seeing corners of northeastern Japan that I'd never even heard of previously... And that I don't know of anyone else who has ever visited
- using Google translate, smiles and gestures to get by and it always working out
- spending the evening in the onsen (hot spring), changing into my "hotel pajamas" and sitting down to an elaborate Japanese meal
- adapting to their culture, not expecting them to adapt to ours

This is how I imagine popular towns in Japan were 30 years ago before they were descended on by hordes of tourists. The road less traveled always leads to incredible places. In this case... Stunning mountains, quiet streams, hot springs, the best rice in the country and lots and lots of smiles.

When the news gets bleak I'm trying to lean into a belief that better days are coming... Eventually. That these next few years are the bottom of the valley and we'll be climbing out of it and finding common sense and care for each other again. I'm trying to believe in miracles. ✨

Here's your reminder that at Above Yoga Retreats, we also believe that human rights matter. We support our immigrant neighbors, our LGBTQ+ neighbors, our black, brown and Asian neighbors. We support your right to vote however you want, but we do not support fascist dictators. ❌

If this makes you angry, you are welcome to spend your money elsewhere. In fact, I'd encourage it. It's a free country (sort of, and at least for now). Either way just know that some of your money goes back into certain communities where we retreat (things like childhood education in Morocco and Cambodia, wild animal conservation in Kenya and Zimbabwe and more). So if those aren't things you want to support, then don't support this business. 💵

Now please take me back to May when I had 10 days in Europe and a long stretch of not reading much about American politics. Admittedly an immense privilege (to travel and to be able to ignore the news)... but dang if it wasn't so good for the brain!! 🌍

Everyone's having a terrible time. Clearly. 😂

There's just something about this place. From morning coffee and yoga on the top deck to an evening Aperol Spritz and exploring stunning seaside villages in between. 🍹🌴🏰
