Ancient Egyptian art refers to art produced in ancient Egypt between the 6th millennium BC and the 4th century AD, spanning from Prehistoric Egypt until the Christianization of Roman Egypt. It includes paintings, sculptures, drawings on papyrus, faience, jewelry, ivories, architecture, and other art media. It was a conservative tradition whose style changed very little over time. Much of the surviving examples comes from tombs and monuments, giving insight into the ancient Egyptian afterlife beliefs.

“Dendera Temple of Hathor“
The goddess Hathor is the goddess of love, beauty and motherhood among the ancient Egyptians. The temple is located in the governorate of Qena, south of Cairo. It was built more than five thousand years ago and was considered a holy city for the Egyptians at this time. It is composed of several temples and religious buildings spread over an area of 40,000 square meters close to the banks. The Nile, although established by the Pharaohs and specifically in the era of the last Egyptian Pharaohs, Nakht Ambo II, but it has passed through many different historical periods such as Roman and others, and the Temple of Dandara is one of the largest temples in Egypt.

Medinet habu temple.

In ancient times, Madinat Habu was known as Djanet and according to ancient belief was the place where Amun first appeared. Both Hatshepsut and Tuthmosis III built a temple dedicated to Amun here and Later Rameses III constructed his larger memorial temple on the site.

First Pylon – the temple of Rameses III. During his time, Djanet became the administrative centre of Western Thebes. The entire temple complex was surrounded by a massive fortified enclosure wall, with an unusual gateway at the eastern entrance, known as the pavilion gate. This structure, a copy of a Syrian Migdol fortress is something you would not expect to see in Egypt. Rameses III, a military man, probably saw the virtue in such a structure. It is likely Rameses lived here from time to time because a royal palace was attached at the south of the open forecourt of this temple, while priests’ dwellings and administrative buildings lay on either side of the temple. Originally, a canal with a harbour outside the entrance connected the temple to the Nile. But this was obliterated by the desert long ago.

“The Egyptian Museum”
The Egyptian Museum was founded in 1858 at Būlāq, moved to Al-Jīzah (Giza), and settled in its present site in downtown Cairo in 1897–1902. The building was designed by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon in Neoclassical style and was the first purpose-built museum in the Middle East and North Africa.

The museum is unique in its presentation of the whole history of Egyptian civilization, especially of antiquities of the Pharaonic and Greco-Roman periods. On the ground floor are a number of large and heavy objects, including colossal figures situated inside the middle atrium. At the peak of its collection, the museum stored more than 100,000 items. Most of the artifacts were never displayed, however, because of the museum’s crowded and small space.
