A few hours cruising along Rochester’s Genesse River, which flows north from Potters County PA up through NY State, through Rochester & into Lake Ontario. In the early 19th century, the Erie Canal was hand-dug to create a pathway for cargo barges to transport lumber, coal & crops from the Midwest (via the Great Lakes) to the Erie Canal, which ran from Buffalo to Rochester and on to Albany, down the Hudson River & finally to the Atlantic Ocean abs beyond. We enjoyed seeing a trio of pretty arched bridges designed in the late 18th century by the Olmsted Brothers (of NYC Central Park fame). Great mini cruise experience offered by … all part of our weeklong along the NY state coast from Buffalo through The Welland Canal & into Lake Ontario to Rochester, Clayton, 1000 Islands & Oswego & Ogsdenberg.
