Travel Inspiration Thursday! Minneapolis, Minnesota is, in my opinion, a vastly underrated city to visit. I spent a long weekend there a couple of October’s ago with some girlfriends, and we had an amazing time. From a vibrant art scene, plenty of nature opportunities, industrial history and architecture and phenomenal food and drink options, there is much to do in this city.

Our highlights included:
Stone Arch Bridge and Mill City Museum
First Avenue Music Venue and all the fun music related murals
Hiking around Minnehaha Falls (hopefully it will have rained recently - a bit dry when we were there)
Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and Minneapolis Institute of Art
Paisley Park (Prince’s home and recording studio, just outside of Minneapolis)
Food - Tater Tot Hot Dish (a Minnesota must eat) at Stray Dog, Rotisserie Chicken Dishes (+ many more options!) at Brasa Premium Rotisserie, impeccably fresh sushi at Billy Sushi, soul warming pho at Quang and delicious pizza at w**e at Pizzeria Lola (fantastic wood fired pizzas with creative toppings)
Drink - Sake flights (+ delicious ramen) at moto-i, c***r flights and tastings at Minneapolis C***r Company and craft b**r flights at Bruhaven Craft Company

Travel Inspiration Thursday!
Montreal in October is perfect for a romantic get-away. With its European flair, Montreal has just a different vibe about it and is an excellent place for brisk fall walks, warm cozy cafes and cultural exploration. Don’t miss out on fantastic architecture of central Montreal - from the modern Montreal Conference Center to the World Trade Center building, there is a lot to explore. Old Montreal gives cobblestone streets, the magnificent Notre Dame cathedral and tons of spots to enjoy a coffee or snack. Mile End was my favorite area, and a self guided food tour of this trendy area includes take away gnocchi, Montreal style bagels, cappuccinos so good you feel you are in Rome and excellent craft b**r. For a more strenuous activity, climb to the top of Mont Royal for excellent views. Quebec City is an easy day trip, and if you happen to have a car, don’t miss out on Ile Orleans - a small island off of Quebec City with c***ries, apples, vintage shops, cozy cafes and beautiful scenery.

Traveling with kids doesn’t have to be a nightmare! With the right tools, your travel experience with the littles can be as comfortable and seamless as possible. Get kids their own seat whenever possible - biggest reason - safety!
Bringing car seats on board can be super helpful, or an FAA approved Cares harness system
Business class is not always better - space between seats can be awkward and more work for you. Premium economy or the equivalent is my recommendation

Favorite Non Screen Time for Toddlers - sticker books, water paint books, lacing cards, window clings and alllllll the snacks

Travel Inspiration Thursday! Kamakura, Japan is one of my favorite smaller cities in Japan, and its proximity to Tokyo makes it an excellent day or 1-night trip. We lived in neighboring Zushi, and so went to Kamakura often for the cultural sights, the fun shopping and all the yummy food.

Don’t Miss:
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine
Kamakura Daibutsu (Great Buddha)
Hasedera Temple (beautiful in the hydrangea season!)
Enoshima Island (another 1 hour from Kamakura, but a great addition to the day)

Be sure to sample matcha (green tea) and ube (purple sweet potato) ice cream, tako senbai (octopus cracker) and taiyaki (small, fish shaped cake with a variety of fillings). Pro Tip: There is a stand outside of JR Kamakura Station with the VERY best!

It is Travel Inspiration Thursday! One of my favorite places we visited in the fall months was Prague, Czech Republic. The bright orange/red leaves brought out the red rooftops and the views to life. There is a fairy tale charm about the old cobblestoned streets and architecture. The mulled w**e is delicious, and don’t miss sampling a hearty goulash and a trdelník.

Pinkas Synagogue
Spanish Synagogue
Church of St. Nicholas
Church of St. Peter and St. Paul - a bit further afield, but gorgeous church and views around river

Orvieto in Italy is a dreamy hilltop town offering majestic views of Umbrian countryside, with the dramatic Duomo di Orvieto taking center stage in the city. You will find narrow winding streets lined with shops, restaurants, cafes and local artisans. Underneath the town is a fascinating labyrinth of ancient caves and tunnels carved into rock. When visiting, stay in an Agri turismo - a farmhouse style of lodging which often includes home cooking or w**e tastings. This gem of a city is only about 90 minutes from Rome and offers a much quieter look at Italian life.

Travel Inspiration Thursday!
Today, we feature Vietnam, a country of breathtaking contrasts and unforgettable experiences. Ancient and modern history beg to be told, all with the constant hum of motorbikes and horn honking in the background. Learning to cross the road is an experience of itself! The street food is unparalleled, with steaming bowls of pho, fragrant spring rolls and the jolt of caffeine from a Vietnamese coffee. There are so many places to visit in Vietnam, and we hardly scratched the surface with our visit to Ho Chi Minh City (or Saigon) and Hanoi.
We were able to get a taste of the modern and ancient, and the cities are vastly different from each other. From exploring temples and buildings of historical significance to taking to the water for tours of the Mekong River and HaLong Bay, there is something for everyone and is definitely on my list to return for further exploration.
