Travel Inspiration!
Chincoteague, Virginia may be one of our favorite State-side family vacations. There is something for everyone here, and we all had a great time. We went in mid-September, just past peak season and before most things close up for the winter.
Chincoteague is a quaint little seaside town on the East Coast, neighboring Assateague Island National Shoreline in Maryland. You get the majestic Atlantic ocean for glorious beach and sand days, along with the calm waters of the Chesapeake Bay system for other water sports. The name might ring a bell for those who had read “Misty of Chincoteague”, for sightings of these wild ponies are a huge draw for visiting.
Don’t Miss:
Pony Boat Tour - take a cruise to see the wild horses from the water - the views are spectacular! We love Cowboy Cruise Company.
Shellfish Tour - can combine this with above through Cowboy Cruise Company for the absolute best oysters and clams the East Coast (or anywhere!) has to offer. A must for shellfish lovers.
Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge - hikes, bikes, nature and time with the family!
The Beach!
The Food - We loved the Island Creamery for ice cream, Sandy Pony Donuts for the freshest donuts ever, Captain Zack’s Seafood and Pico Taqueria for the most amazing tacos (we ate here twice!).
Pack your bags for an unforgettable fun family vacation to a small little island that will steal your heart.
