🐎🚤 Attention Hudson River & Mohawk River Boaters! 🚤🐎

Have you ever thought about attending the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival while cruising New York's waterways?

For the third and final year in a row, the world-famous Belmont Stakes will be held at historic Saratoga Race Course from June 3–7, 2026, before returning to Belmont Park following renovations.

What many boaters may not realize is that the Schenectady Yacht Club is only about 20 miles from Saratoga Race Course — approximately a 25–30 minute Uber ride. That makes attending one of horse racing's premier events surprisingly convenient while cruising the Erie Canal and Mohawk River.

Located between Locks E-7 and E-8 on the Erie Canal, the Schenectady Yacht Club offers transient dockage, fuel, and a welcoming stop for traveling boaters. As a proud sponsor of AGLCA, we offer discounted dockage to AGLCA members. In addition, members of the Mohawk-Hudson Council of Yacht Clubs and the Hudson River Boat & Yacht Club Association receive their first night of dockage free with proper credentials.

Spend the morning on the water, enjoy an afternoon at one of the most famous racetracks in America, and be back aboard your vessel by evening.

Whether you're a longtime racing enthusiast or simply looking for a unique side trip during your cruise, Saratoga Springs offers outstanding racing, restaurants, shopping, museums, and historic charm.

Have any of our boating friends attended the Belmont or Saratoga races while traveling by boat? We'd love to hear about your experience.

🛥️🌊 Three Generations, One Great Adventure 🌊🛥️

The Schenectady Yacht Club was delighted to welcome two wonderful AGLCA Looper crews to our shores this week along the Mighty Mohawk.

Captain Jeff and Admiral Beth aboard M/V Washed Away have chosen to spend some time with us while attending to family matters. In true Harbor Host fashion, Skipper Jack was happy to assist with transportation to a local airport after they were settled into their temporary port of call.

We were also honored to host the crew of M/V Dream CATcher from Bozeman, Montana — a remarkable three-generation Looper crew consisting of grandparents Bob and Pat, parents Will and Kiira, and young crew members Miryn and Beckett.

One of the true joys of the Great Loop is watching families share adventures together, and few sights are more inspiring than seeing multiple generations making memories on America's waterways.

During their stay, the Dream CATcher crew joined Skipper Jack and Migal on the shoreline for a cookout and campfire, shared stories with fellow boaters, and enjoyed a guided walk through our historic grounds. The children especially enjoyed learning about the original Erie Canal structures located right here on Schenectady Yacht Club property and hearing stories about the canal that helped build a nation.

Tomorrow we will bid farewell to M/V Dream CATcher as they continue westbound on their Great Loop adventure. We thank them for choosing to spend part of their journey with us and for sharing a little of their family's adventure with our club family.

From all of us at the Schenectady Yacht Club:

Clear channels, open doors, and safe travels ahead.

🛥️ Another Looper Adventure Continues Westbound on the Mighty Mohawk 🛥️

This morning, the Schenectady Yacht Club wished safe travels to the crew of M/V JAZZY LADY as they continued westbound on their Great American Loop adventure after spending the evening with us along the shores of the Mighty Mohawk. 🌊

The crew of JAZZY LADY joined fellow Loopers aboard M/V Oma along with our very own M/V Galian for dinner, docktails, friendship, and a relaxing evening beside the shoreline campfire — one of the many traditions that makes the cruising community so special.

As a proud sponsor of the America’s Great Loop Cruisers’ Association, SYC is honored to welcome transient boaters traveling the eastern Erie Canal and proudly offers a 10% dockage discount for AGLCA members, whether staying overnight or for an extended visit.

Conveniently located just west of Lock E7 on the Erie Canal and within close proximity to Albany International Airport, our member-owned and maintained yacht club continues to welcome cruisers navigating these historic waterways.

From all of us at SYC — clear channels, open doors, and safe travels ahead.

Recently, we received a Facebook inquiry from a mariner interested in haul-out and storage services. Unfortunately, due to that individual’s Facebook privacy settings, we were unable to reply back through Messenger.

🇺🇸 A wonderful start to this Memorial Day Weekend during the 250th Anniversary year of our Nation’s Independence 🇺🇸

Mid-afternoon we were visited by M/V A Change of Plans, crewed by Captain Brett and Admiral Angie, who stopped by the Schenectady Yacht Club to visit with our wonderful dockmaster Linda while fueling up for their continued westbound journey toward Amsterdam, New York.

Later in the day, M/V NO FACTOR stopped in for the evening. Their crew enjoyed dinner at one of our fine local restaurants, but not before joining several of our club members along the shoreline for Docktails and fellowship. The evening was then topped off relaxing around a campfire, sharing stories of life and adventure upon the waterways.

We were also pleased to continue hosting Captain Todd aboard M/V SixWinds, who joined in with the evening’s LooperTales and camaraderie.

As another beautiful day comes to a close along the Mohawk River, we wish all of our visiting boaters safe travels and fair winds for the journeys ahead tomorrow. ⚓

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Remembrance 🇺🇸

As we gather this Memorial Day weekend with family and friends — on our docks, aboard our vessels, beside campfires, at backyard cookouts, and along the shores of the Mighty Mohawk — the Schenectady Yacht Club pauses to remember the true meaning of this solemn American holiday.

For more than 250 years, brave men and women of our nation’s Armed Forces have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom, peace, and survival of the United States of America. They served on land, upon the seas, beneath the oceans, and high above our skies. Many never returned home.

Because of their courage and sacrifice, we are able to enjoy the freedoms we often cherish most — gathering openly with those we love, traveling these historic waterways, raising our flags proudly, and living in liberty.

As boaters and patriots, we recognize that freedom has never been free.

So while many of us spend this holiday weekend enjoying the beauty of the Erie Canal, the Mohawk River, and the waters beyond, may we never forget those who gave all so that we could do so.

Today, we honor the fallen.
Today, we remember.
