It’s great when I have the chance to take a rat’s nest of wires and get it back to being streamlined under the hood. 😎🎸

Tis’ the season. Elementary school instruments are just exploding out there! And we know it’s time for fall and Christmas season concerts. So I am getting these out as quick as possible. Believe it or not I only had this one in my shop for four days total. It’s ready to sing again.

This has been probably a year in the making. I thought I had the perfect shop before… 350 sq. ft is all I needed. There is a lot you can do with limited space. Guitar and string’d musical instrument set ups, fret work, electronic work, finish work, wood working, etc. But it was a twenty minute drive there.
My wife convinced me to sell my rental property with detached woodshop in Richland and build a new shop onto our house. I generally do not like change— “why fix it if it ain’t broken” mentality. However, I agreed and we sold the property in Oct. 2024.
After finding a contractor, I received the bid for new shop in December 2024. Building Permits by February 2025, finally breaking ground during Spring Vacation. Once concrete was laid, I didn’t know but the building process goes fairly fast; framing electrical and drywall. But would be grossly over budget.
Also I didn’t understand all that I was getting with this Contractors work and what I would have to take care of on my own. I guess I should have read the fine print! After a couple of city inspector visits, there would be a list of things that didn’t pass inspection; and it seemed like my contractor just fell off the face of the planet. I kinda felt had.
The shop sat dormant for a month! until I figured out what had to be done. That was all of June. So, after many Youtube tutorials in July, I learned how to lay concrete steps properly, build a sturdy balcony railing, spray external paint, digging trenches and re-lay 3 irrigation lines, installing insulation.
July 29th was the day that the inspector signed off on everything and I moved all of my equipment in the same day. I wasted no time.
Now I have been operating at full capacity for the last three weeks! And THIS SHOP is even more perfect that the one I left behind in Richland.

Felt like routing and installing some celluloid binding onto a Telecaster. I think it looks pretty sharp now. 😎
