Big Cat Guide Service

Big Cat Guide Service Capt. Scott Cannon Capt. Joe Cannon James River Catfishing Do you want to catch the fish of a lifetime? Is the biggest catfish you have ever caught 10lbs? 20lbs?

or even 30lbs? Well if you are ready to catch Blue Catfish ranging from 20 to 50 pounds even fishing up to 80 pounds you have come to the right place. Big Cat Guide Service has been fishing the James and other rivers for a combined 30+ years and have spent almost all of that time chasing giant Blue Catfish and Flathead Catfish. The largest Blue Cat we have caught is 86 pounds and have many in the

50,60 and 70 pound class. The largest flathead we have caught is 49-1/2 pounds, which is one of the top flatheads ever caught on the James River. Twnety, Thirty and forty pound catfish are very common for a Big Cat Guide Service trip. If you come at the right time of year you might even hook into striper that can top 30 pounds. Super Cool Trip Alert -
I.E. …….If guest Sat nite had an extra sweatshirt, blanket and some hot chocolate we might have been a bit warmer!!!
Water temp on Sat nite night trip was 85° and air temp was 62…….BUT DAN FROM NY AND BLAKE & Heather from Chester area slowly but surely still caught fish. Even though first fish was not caught till 12:00am this am‼️‼️‼️
First mate Isaiah was wrapped up in his Carhartt attire by 9:00pm‼️

It honestly was my first nite trip this year and the weather was PERFECT ⚓️.
It ain’t often I get to say about our weather here in Richmond…….Still all guests had a good time, good music AND then Captain Joe singing……..well 2 outta 3 ain’t bad.

Last week I had a super crew from Pittsburgh, Pa, and everyone of them enjoyed fishing.
My charter consist of two grandfathers and their two grandsons Toni and Steve, the old men on the boat and Beavis and Butthead the grandkids. We didn’t have any 40 or 50 pounders and with the weather we’ve had lately it’s been difficult to say the least in consistently pulling up 3040s 50s and 60s as happens in the winter time. But the charter itself was fantastic. No first mate for me but Beavis, Butthead, Steve and Toni all chipped in and it just made for a really nice trip. The high temp that day was only 83°. They will be coming back once the water cools down late November Early December and we have more fish on the prowl. They can’t wait and I can’t either. I normally take pictures. I didn’t take pictures this time and the most I could get from them was three 4 or pictures, but I’ll put up what we have. None of these have the big fish in them but they had a blast and that’s what it’s all about.

My guys last Thursday ere from SC for an 11 yr old girls softball tourney in Williamsburg!!! Not everyone needed to be there. Sleeping were AntMan, Wyatt, Jason, Justin and Tom (not pictured). I explained the spawn and will still had 1 over 20lbs but they got what they came for and more😎
They have a ton of pics not taken by me because I spent my time and their energy reeling in 21 blue cats!!!
Of which we kept 20 with all but one under 8-10lbs. He wanted to keep a 21 blue but not on my boat! I consider myself a true conservationist when it comes to to preserving the life of young catfish‼️‼️✝️🎣👀❗️
I will be updating this post as soon as their are fearless leader Justin sends me the pictures he took during the day. It got hot, but even the catfish Cadillac stayed very comfortable because of the reflective roof my first mate and I installed 3 weeks ago.

Today was not a good day for Hickory shad fishing. I would’ve had more fun if we at least had gotten a couple bites, maybe even snagged a couple stripers, a couple of herring, a couple anything.

So after wasted most of the morning into early afternoon, we decided to make a run down past Osborne pick up some bait and do a little catfish. Was there plentiful bait? Oh yeah 32 in the first pool and we didn’t leave it in the water but about two minutes max. But that’s OK went to one of our favorite spots set up and in the first 20 minutes we had three fish biggest 33 and a couple in the mid 20s. We got a few more d***s before we left, but it really made the whole day worth it. We had a great time catching fish and we look forward to the next charter coming up real soon, but I really think after the day it’s gonna still be about 7 to 10 days before those Hickory shad are gonna be plentiful enough to actually spend time fishing
for them!

John called last week from Texas and scheduled a trip with BIGCAT Guide Service. We went out today on the Mighty James which was an item on John’s Bucket List‼️
John let it be known that he really wanted to see just how big these James River cats were!!!
The results are below. Really had a lot of fish in the 10-20lb range all day till KABOOM‼️

John and his son Jacob are diehard fishermen and we were patient during the day doing our best and waiting for a pole to slam down……………John finally was able to cross this trip producing a HOG off his bucket list!

My 1st Mate and my good friend, Bob “ da mailman” Holmes performed above and beyond today catching fresh bait, reeling in lines on every move we made, netting our catches during the day, and discussing our next moves etc.

HOW BIG? …………..BIG 😜

To book a trip this month or in
April call Captain Joe 804.690.8469!
