This Father's Day, we're giving a shoutout to the dads, granddads, and father figures who make Richmond feel like home. Whether they're coaching little league at George Park, flipping burgers on the grill, or just always showing up when it counts, the dads in our community do the small things that add up to something big.

Take a minute this weekend to thank the father figure who shaped you, and tag us if you're out celebrating around town. Happy Father's Day, Richmond!

On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston to read General Order No. 3, informing enslaved Texans that they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had already been signed. That day became Juneteenth, the longest running African American holiday in the country, and it started right here in Texas.

Juneteenth has grown into a day for celebrating not only freedom, but also history, culture, and achievement. Here in , we take time today to reflect on that history and celebrate the resilience, contributions, and culture of our community. Take a moment to learn, connect with neighbors, and join in the celebrations happening across Fort Bend County today.

SANDY MCGEE'S: 40 YEARS, CHAPTER 1

Forty years ago, before there was ever a restaurant, there was a tiny snack bar and a brand new baby girl.

Long before Sandy McGee's opened its doors, Sandy was running the snack bar at the T.W. Davis Fieldhouse in Richmond with little money and even less restaurant experience. Then her daughter Ashley came along, and a planned six week maternity leave turned into a decision that changed everything. She brought the cooking home, and a catering business was born out of her own kitchen.
