UB40's "Red Red W**e" success was partly thanks to a rogue DJ who played it against label instructions, sparking a trend and "radio mutiny."

UB40 were unaware "Red Red W**e" was by Neil Diamond, believing it was a Tony Tribe song, only discovering the truth after recording it.

UB40's reggae version of "Red Red W**e" topped charts # 1 , while Diamond's original only reached 62. Diamond's version was released in 1968 and UB40's in 1983.
