A heartwarming story from Chincoteague. We spend three days at this magical place during our Ocean to Bay Tour slated for May 10-16, 2026. Who knows, maybe we will see this foal all grown up next year?

A newborn Chincoteague foal is getting a second chance at life after being rescued from the wild with a rare birth defect.
The foal was missing a hoof on its hind leg. It was not an injury, but a congenital deformity. While such cases often lead to euthanasia, rescuers believed the filly might adapt well to a prosthetic.
The foal was transported off the island in air-conditioned comfort. She even got some snuggles and an afternoon nap with one of the volunteers.
The foal was later introduced to a Chincoteague pony mare, Neveah, who had recently lost her foal and was yearning for a new baby. With medical support, the mare began producing milk again and accepted the orphaned filly as her own.
The two are now inseparable.
