Hope all will enjoy the holiday! Labor Day originated from the late 19th-century labor movement, with the first parade held in New York City on September 5, 1882. Labor union advocates organized parades, speeches, and picnics to celebrate and advocate for workers' rights and contributions. Oregon became the first state to make it a legal holiday in 1887, and it became a federal holiday on June 28, 1894, after President Grover Cleveland signed the bill, partly in response to unrest from the Pullman strike.
