Local Chefs to Compete in Outdoor Cook-Off to Benefit Local Food Bank

Rochester, NY – May 11, 2015 – Local chefs and food enthusiasts are invited to compete in an outdoor cook-off to benefit Family Restoration Project (FRP) food pantry, a not-for profit outreach out of New Life Ministries, Inc. The first annual cook-off will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 3:00–6:00 p.m. at 330-360 Wellington Avenue in Rochester. The event, cosponsored by student clubs Simon Net Impact and Simon Vision, and Family Restoration Project, Inc., is free and open to the public.

Contestants will show it is possible to make a nutritious and delicious meal on a budget using items from the food bank. The purpose of the cook-off is to draw attention to the food pantry’s mission and to raise funds to support its operations. A portion of the proceeds will be used to install a handicap accessible ramp at Family Restoration Project to better serve the clientele.

Chefs will be judged on the taste component based on which chef raises the most donations for their dish; nutrition as measured by a nutritionist; and economy based on per serving cost. Scores will be tallied and the chef with the lowest score will win.

Restaurants and caterers are welcome to field a contestant in the competition. The registration deadline to compete is May 23, 2015. For more information or to register, contact Beverly Coleman at [email protected] or Robert Kauffman, Simon MBA candidate, Class of 2016, at [email protected].
